FRENCH

Claude Monet

Bonjour tout le monde,

On Thursday 20 October, all the students will participate in a French cultural event from 9am to 1:15pm. They will be divided into four groups (their house colours) that will rotate between 4 activities including sport, cooking, history and craft.

The students can choose to come in their school uniform that day, but it will be more fun if they come dressed as a French person or a French painter, or simply wear the French colours (blue, red or white). This year's theme is Claude Monet.

At school, most students are starting a new topic this Term, except for the Preps who are continuing learning farm animals.

  • PREP - Last week after the heavy rain, we managed to play a fun game to keep memorising the names of farm animals. Each student was given a piece of paper with the name of an animal in French.  By making the sound of their animals, they had to find their siblings among the big group. It really felt like we were at the farm.... except that it was a lot louder :-)!!
  • YEARS 1 & 2 - This term, our main topic will be family members. In class, we explained what a family tree was. The students were introduced to a French family tree similar to the following one:

  • YEARS 3, 4, 4/5 and 5/6 - The four grades will be doing the same topic this term: Francophonie (= the French speaking countries) around the world. It is an important cultural topic that helps students understand the importance of learning French. Our first lesson was about Metropolitan France and the French overseas Departments and Territories around the world. We watched a video in class (only part of it in Grade 3) and started completing the following map:

For those of you who are interested in watching the video, here it is:

Today's song is 'Que tout s'danse' (you can dance on anything) by Noé Preszow:

I am looking forward to next Thursday and I'm sure the students will love it and will learn a few new French things ;-).

Passez un bon weekend! A bientôt,

Delphine
