Year 10 & 11 Formal

After 2 long years wasted at home due to the covid lockdown, The year 10s and 11s finally

got to attend their first-ever JMSS formal. On September 14th, most of the year 10 and 11

students spent the evening socialising, eating and dancing. The event was held at Quat

Quatta in Ripponlea.

Many friends met prior and arrived together, most carpooling, some taking public transport

and a few lucky ones had limos. Everyone looked phenomenal, in spectacular suits or

dazzling dresses, or outstanding outfits, each individual had a radiant, unique glow that

manifested a fantastical vibe.

Quat Quatta was a grand and panoramic venue. An elegant yet neutral space, with polished

white walls and intricate crown moulding, it was something out of the Great Gatsby. The

interior was astonishing, with perfect lighting to set the mood; even the bathroom was of high

quality. The outdoor space, with charming hedges, was an ideal place for pictures to be

taken with our friends. A magnificent atmosphere created a beautiful night, mirroring the venue itself.

Though the night started slightly quiet and peaceful, the excitement picked up quickly. Nearly everyone was dancing and having a great time. With trendy and iconic songs, even the teachers started dancing.

The ‘finger food’ at Formal did not disappoint. With waiters wandering around with refreshments and delectable cuisines, stomachs were definitely filled. The starters were dishes like meat pies, chicken wings and falafel. By the end of the night, desserts such as

ice cream and brownies were served. So by the end of this magical evening, the year 10s

and 11s had their appetites satisfied.

We hope the years 10s and 11s enjoyed their first formal at JMSS, and start to look forward

to the next upcoming one. :)

Japanese Class

Year 10 Japanese class visited Huntingdale Primary School on Thursday, Oct 20.

We observed the Foundation - Year 4 Japanese bilingual classes and experienced a taiko (Japanese drum) session.

Our students also had an opportunity to present their recent Japanese Children's Book project to the students of Huntingdale PS.

Music News

The JMSS Music Department is finishing the year strongly, with a range of soiree evenings. This term has so far seen students participate in the final VCE Music Soiree of the year, which was followed one week later with the Brass and Woodwind Soiree. Music students are also preparing for Presentation Night on December 9, which will feature several ensembles and a large combined Choir and Orchestra performance.

Congratulations is due to several JMSS music students, who have had great results with their latest round of AMEB music exams, scoring High Distinctions and Honours certificates.

Congratulations to Jacob Pellowe (Y11 Wood) and Luna Marko (Y10 Blackburn) for their excellent results.

Finally, keep an eye out for Jazz Night on November 17. A range of JMSS music students will get up to jam with a teacher-led band in the foyer of the main school building. Students will be improvising their way through a selection of jazz standards.
