Dear Parents and Students,

As we reach the end of week 4 the business end of the year is well and truly upon us. Year 12 exams have started and Year 10 and 11 exams begin next Thursday.

Year 12 Exams

Over 420 of our students are completing a VCE Unit 3 and 4 exam of some sort in the October/November exam period. Each student completing a VCAA exam will have been given an individual timetable and a navigator booklet that describes the exam conditions and the materials are allowed to be brought into an exam. The individual exam timetable will also have listed the venue for the exam. This year many students have multiple exam venues ranging from the campus centre to different spaces at JMSS. We are reemphasising that all students completing a VCAA Unit 3 and 4 exam at JMSS turn up to designated meeting point at least 1 hour prior to the exam starting so that we know they are here.  There have been many public transport disruptions over the last few weeks and students need to be aware of this if using this mode of transport. If a student is running late they need to ring the General office on 99051002. For year 12 exams we are running a space for those not feeling well or are exhibiting Covid like symptoms. Please contact the VCE team if your son or daughter is not feeling well prior to a Year 12 exam.

Year 10 and 11 exams

Year 10 and 11 exams begin on Thursday 3rd November. These exams should not only be approached by students as a test of the content covered across the semester in a subject but also with an awareness about how well they have prepared for this type of assessment with the big picture of Year 12 exams in mind. Preparing effectively for exams is complex and does involve effective revision techniques, adequate sleep and good diet. On Monday November 28 students will be encouraged to reflect on their exam performance before we embark on orientation for 2023.

Course Confirmation

In the week after exams, course confirmation is held (14th-19th November) to finalise all current year 10 and 11 courses for 2023 prior to the 2023 Orientation period. Every student should have received an individual appointment time for course confirmation and parents are very welcome to also attend.

Student Achievements

At recent assemblies the remarkable range of student achievements in a range of competitions has been recognised. There have been numerous exemplary performances Maths, IT and Science. Again our students have performed brilliantly in Olympiad competitions. All students receiving these prestigious awards will be recognised 2022 School magazine.
