Gala Concert Success

A little over two weeks ago (it seems longer!) the Music Department presented the Gala Concert in the Huntingtower PAC. The concert featured eleven Middle School and Senior School ensembles, who were joined by two ensembles from the Junior School.

In all, there were about 260 performers on the night, with all the high-quality performances delighting the large and appreciative audience. The smooth flow of the concert was a testament to the many hard-working staff backstage keeping the students circulating through the various holding positions in readiness for their turn on stage.

Congratulations to all members and the conductors of the Senior Concert Band, Middle School Choir, Junior School Strings, Middle School Chamber Choir, Middle School Orchestra, Junior School Chamber Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Senior Choir, Senior Strings, Senior Chamber Choir, and the Senior Symphony Orchestra. One of the many highlights of the evening was the addition of a massed choirs and pit orchestra reprise of When I Grow Up form Matilda – it was so delightful to have the Junior, Middle and Senior Choirs perform this together.

2023 Ensembles Starting Term 4

With the Year 12 students focussing on their exams next term, our regular ensemble rehearsals will effectively comprise of the 2023 Ensembles starting a term early. This is a vital opportunity to prepare for next year’s busy schedule of concerts. Ensemble leaders have informed the members of the plans for next term, but if any clarification is needed, please make contact with music staff.

Music Expo Night

On the evening of Thursday 17 November there will be a Music Expo Night held in the PAC and Music Centre to provide information, ensemble and instrument demonstrations, and hands on experiences with instruments for existing or new students who are yet to find themselves involved in the many music making opportunities at Huntingtower. In addition to short performances, instrument try-outs, Q&As, and private lessons information, there will be some retailers on hand to organise the ordering/purchasing of own instruments as a viable alternative to hiring instruments. More details will be shared about this exciting opportunity early next term.
