Spring Cleaning Challenge
Last week we held a special meeting where staff and student leaders magnified the good that they have witnessed on campus. Staff gave gratitude for the qualities of the students and shared how well the many school events had proceeded harmoniously, without disruption of weather or pandemic. They mentioned the Ski Camp, the Uluru Residential Program, Matilda, Ball Games, the Gala Concert and the recent HOSA Sports Day.
One staff member mentioned the coming of spring and the importance of spring cleaning our thought. How we should take time to realign our thought, dust off negative opinions, cast out doubts and polish our outlook. Mentally spring cleaning just like we would our home. What a wonderful idea.
This mental spring cleaning could include:
- Re-acknowledging our true selves and remembering our School motto (Know Thy True Self).
- Throw out any worn-out beliefs and practices. Some adopted in lockdowns can now be cast off.
- Releasing unforgiveness and bitterness.
- Remembering to give gratitude.
- Brightening our outlook and magnifying the good.
Mrs. Eddy, throughout her writings, teaches that it is imperative to purify thinking. In her "Miscellaneous Writings" she states, "The human heart, like a feather bed, needs often to be stirred, sometimes roughly, and given a variety of turns, else it grows hard and uncomfortable whereon to repose."
One may ask how this can be done. Since God is the only origin or source, our thoughts must turn to God, good, to be regenerated and the foundationless claims of a hardened or negative thought to be nullified. The sincere prayer for spiritual growth fits us to receive Love's blessing. Through ever greater and purer reflection of goodness and kindness, we may clean away all impurities. Then, radiant with joyous expectancy, we shall be alert to spring’s mental sunshine invigorating us.
May we all accept spring's resurrecting challenge. (1)
