VCAL 2022 Rocked It!
The VCAL class of 2022 has achieved some amazing things this year through accessing opportunities in their certificate classes. They have continued to be a delight to teach and learn alongside and we are proud of the way they have represented the certificate this year – the last year it will be known as VCAL. This year has seen students produce outcomes that cover their own personal interests, but also develop the skills of team VCAL and skills expected of them in their move towards employment. Highlights include their involvement with our feeder primary schools on their ‘big’ sports days like swimming carnivals and athletics days and delivering Mother’s Day stall items and service. VCAL welcomed our 2022 Yr 7’s by running a Yr 7 activities program early on.
KSC grounds beautification project had us working with our local Landcare to plant out the embankment behind the STEAM building and spread mulch in many areas across the school. We engaged with the Tech School in Morwell learning about how to apply robotics to real workplace problems, presenting solutions by the end of their day to the group.
Other highlights included zipping around the go-carts course at Phillip Island and experiencing their bowling facilities in a heated competition where we saw Mr Scott take down some serious pins, and we discovered some backward bowler styles. It is well established now that if you want to win, challenge Ms Reymers because she is a terrible bowler! VCAL did not fail to deliver a stunning and super successful Pop-up Shop day where their Enterprise products were opened for sale. There were mugs, candles, soaps, air atomisers, hedgehog, choice balls, rocky road…. the list goes on, and sales boomed!
Both our childcare centre and our elderly citizens village felt the input of the team this year with a seat restoration project and a Christmas hamper project going out at the end of the year. The team were brilliant under the guidance of their teachers. Yr 11 VCAL finished off their projects with an awesome delivery of smoothie day to their whole Yr 11 cohort as a ‘welcome to Yr 12’ celebration. I mean, come on! All this on top of maintaining their class outcomes, TAFE courses and work-placements over the year. What a ripper bunch you are! A huge thanks to the teaching team of Mr Cronin, Ms Neil, Mrs John, Ms Newland, Mr Scott, Mr Boulter, Ms Burdett and Ms Reymers for working so well to deliver this success with our students. VCAL rocked this year!
