Advance/Passion Projects

Our students undertook a range of interesting projects for Passion Projects this year. We had students assisting Ms Dawson with planting the garden beds, podcasters, website builders and historians. We had students creating Go-Karting YouTube channels, learning to read Braille and solving unsolved murder mysteries via a podcast. Another student designed Tiny House while others perfected their jewellery making ad photo-editing skills. We also had students creating comic books to assist people to understand mental health issues, exercise tutorials and art works.

Our Advance students spent an hour each week volunteering at some local community organisations. We are grateful to Anne at Hillside Op Shop, Korumburra Primary School and Meals on Wheels for assisting us to complete our community service. All students involved demonstrated an exemplary level of organisation, respect and compassion to assist others in the community every week. In 2023 we are looking forward to heading on our bi-annual camp to achieve our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Well done to all students involved in Advance and Passion Projects this year.

Enviro Group

Enviro Group decided to work on a project aimed to improve our school waste management system this year. We trialled three bins near the PAC – recycling, compost and general rubbish. Our recycling bin and general rubbish bins were more successful and we look forward to our recycling continuing to improve in 2023. Enviro group also participated in a webinar about the unique Victorian coastline, and celebrated the end of the year with a snorkelling trip to Inverloch. Well done to all students involved for continuing to learn about and advocate for our beautiful local environment.

SALT

Our SALT group had a productive year lending their voices to some whole school decisions and thinking. Students provided feedback on the mentor program and student voice and agency at school, assisting staff to understand the unique circumstances faced by students. Students also worked on a project to promote kindness within the school, preparing presentations for assembly encouraging students to act with respect. Well done.
