Woodwork

During 2022 our classes centred around projects that advanced students knowledge, skills and understanding of timber and wood work projects. Students designed projects that follow the product design process through illustrative planning, researching, visualisations and productions thus increasing students skills over time. Students from years 7- 12 all created an assortment of beautifully designed timber projects that gave students the opportunity to learn a variety of skills from traditional hand cut joinery to more modern woodworking techniques and technologies.

Metalwork

Over 2022 Metalwork students  from Year 7-10 developed an understanding of metal characteristics,  processes and materials. Students test metals, produce small and large scaled metal projects through using a range of hand tools and machinery to develop their creative and innovate ideas along the product design process. Students also investigate sustainability and metalwork industry issues affecting the use and production of metals and metal products.

Textiles

This year in Textiles the Year 8’s explored a variety of topics with Ms Handley. To begin the Semester we looked at Sustainability and the impacts Textiles and fast fashion have on the environment. Students were encouraged to find products they could upcycle and repurpose – or even repair any damaged items. The second project looked at fibres, fabrics and yarn. Students were able to choose a focus skill in either knitting or crochet work. Term four began by looking at different Fabric Dyes and processes. Students learnt about Indigenous Artist Katie West and some of the ways she used natural resources and processes to dye her fabric as a way of connecting to country. The students were asked to bring in a white item of clothing they would use to Tie Dye. The final project for the year was looking at the design and production process. Students learnt about what a Notion is (small features you would find on a sewn product such as; buttons, elastic, zips and clasps.) For their final project in Textiles they were asked to research a design for their pouch and they could make choices on the steps they followed and what notion to use.

Food Technology

During the extent of 2022 our Food Technology course involved students from Year 7 – 10 investigating the relationship between food and health. They designed menus and selected appropriate ingredients to produce exquisite meals using a variety of skills, innovation and techniques. Students learned to work in a safe and hygienic manner whilst continually evaluating their own work practices to product beautifully tasteful food.
