INTERMEDIATE GIRLS FOOTBALL

Our outstanding Intermediate Girls Football team smashed all opposition on the 10th May to win their way through to the Regional Finals.

The girls from Years 8, 9 and 10 put on an incredible display of tackling tenacity and kicking accuracy, beating -

Bass Coast College (Dudley) 39 – 0

Mirboo North Secondary College 59 – 0

And Mary McKillop 33 – 0 in the final, winning every game without a point being scored against them.

Ably led by Coach Skyla and Captain Siena, the girls demonstrated excellent competitive spirit and sportsmanship on the day. Charlotte was so strong in defence all day, repelling the oppositions attacks again and again. Keira had a field day up forward, using her signature ‘tuck and run’ move to great effect. Hayley and Chloe Brown were tackled solidly, while Moneve busted packs with her brilliant pace. Bianca and Hannah were solid in the ruck, getting the ball to our advantage time and time again, while Molly, Bella and Caitlyn all worked hard around the ball, getting some sneaky shots off toward goal. Hailey showed great desperation laying some solid tackles, and Bri was ever present, standing tall in the goal square. Oliviah was having an absolute cracker on the ball in the final until her injury. Lily impressed with her marking while Jac worked hard creating space on the wing and Addy rebounded out of defence. Big thanks also to Cooper Wolfe who umpired every game for the day and encouraged the team during their games. A sensational team effort from everyone involved. ‘Burra on three!’

NETBALL

SENIOR, INTERMEDIATE AND YEAR 8 GIRLS

Our Senior, Intermediate, and Year 8 Girls represented KSC at Interschool Netball 10th May. There were wins, and losses, but lots of fun and good sportsmanship. Well done!

INTERMEDIATE BOYS NETBALL

On the 5th May, the boys were excited to get out on court and show the other schools their skills. They were able to secure a win in their first game against Foster, but were nervous to face Bass Coast Colleges Wonthaggi team. This was a challenging game where they were outclassed by some very talented netballers (an Australian representative included). They went into the last game a little bit flat, but with some positional changes they were able to win the last game by 1 goal. They played in a final to determine 3rd and 4th to round off the day; they went down in this one, but fought hard. Well done to Aaron, Bryce, Tommy, Tanner, Caleb, Daniel, Colby and Marty on showing great sportsmanship both to each other, but also your opposition.

JUNIOR MIXED NETBALL

The Junior mixed team had a great day out! They were able to go from strength to strength in their skills. They were able to have a win in the first game and this gave them some confidence as they headed into the second game. The second game was a very close game and was great to watch. The students fought hard and in the end it was a draw! Well done to Mia, Jess, Cooper, Ally, Chloe, Will, Banjo and Tara on showing amazing determination and being so positive with each other!

VOLLEYBALL

On the 6th May, the Intermediate Boys Volleyball team won their division and will be going through to the next round. They were joined by the Year 8 Girls Volleyball team who also won their division. The Senior Girls and Senior Boys Volleyball teams played very well, but unfortunately did not make it through to the next round. All teams demonstrated excellent team work and a positive attitude.

Interschool

On the 3/3/2022 a small group of year 8’s & a year 7 went to Korumburra to represent KSC in Volleyball for Interschool sports. We had a fun time and even made it through to Regionals. We played 4 games, 1 each against Mary Mack, Leongatha, Wonthaggi and San Remo (Bass Coast). We won each game 2-0 and were very dedicated and really enjoyed our time.  We would like to say a big thank you to Mr. Boulter for taking us there and helping us throughout the day. We are looking forward to going to Regionals at the start of term 2.

Year 8 Girls Volleyball Regional

On the 6th of May, the year 8, girls Volleyball team travelled to Morwell to compete in the Regional championships. The Korumburra team came out on top, with three straight wins. They played three games against: Nagle, Maffra and Lowanna. Beating them all by two sets. The Year 8 girls are now off to the state championships in Dandenong. Big thankyou to Mr Boulter and Mr Churchill for driving us there and coaching our team.

Intermediate Boys

On Friday 6th of May the intermediate boys headed to Morwell for the Gippsland Secondary Championships. They had already tasted success at the Division level and this was the next step. The boys played a total of 3 games winning two and going down to Drouin in the other. This was a huge improvement from last year where they lost all of their games at this level. As a result, the boys finished second overall. Congratulations to all team members.

VOLLEYBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Wednesday the 9th of November Korumburra’s Yr 8 Girls Volleyball headed off to the State Championship. Having won both their division and region the girls were very excited and some what nervous about the prospect of playing the best schools across the state. Our first game was against Daylesford which we won two set to zero. An awesome start. Our second game against Eltham would see us go down in two very close sets. Importantly this was our best volleyball played to date and I was super proud of the way the girls played against such quality opposition. Our final pool game was against McKinnon. We went down in the first set quite easily and I asked the girls to rally as I knew this wasn’t our best. The second was very close but we ended up winning it 20-18. The third and final set was again very tight but the girls pulled on through and ended up beating McKinnon in three sets. What a performance, the girls were pumped!

With this is meant we made semi finals. Unfortunately we encountered a very strong school in The Grange and they beat us two sets to zero. Despite the disappointment this meant we finished equal third in the state. What an awesome achievement for these hard working, super talented girls!!!

Table Tennis

INTERS MIXED TABLE TENNIS

On the 18th of August a team of five students represented KSC in Table Tennis. The competition was held at the well set up Leongatha Table Tennis Club.

The team played both singles and doubles sets. After a thrilling four rubbers against other schools in our district, our team had lost one, and won three. Unfortunately this was not enough to claim the honours for the day.

The team worked well together and all team members played their best table tennis, and should be proud of their efforts on the day.

 Tennis

The Year 8 Girls Tennis team had a great day at the Leongatha town courts. They were on a steep learning curve with the introduction of fast tennis. All of the team members were supportive and picked up some great skills on the day. Our Intermediate Boys Tennis team also enjoyed a good competition a couple of weeks ago.
