LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

The Third, and ‘hopefully, fingers crossed’, Final Year of the Pandemic.

One of many highlights of 2022 has been that we have spent an entire year onsite (no lockdowns), however, in return, the major challenge this year has been illness due to COVID.  There are a few lucky souls on staff who have managed not to get COVID this year, further fingers crossed for 2023! Prolonged absence due to COVID has impacted on students and staff this year, this makes us excited for 2023 where we hope COVID’s influence on our lives will have greatly lessened.

The big buzz of 2022 has been our building program. Planning for this took place in 2021, and all of 2022 has been spent building two new state of the art buildings/facilities – the Community Hub and the Learning Hub. The Community Hub has a competition sized basketball court, a Performing Arts space, classrooms, and wonderful new change facilities. In the Learning Hub, we have classrooms of all description – large and small, as well as brand new toilet facilities, a ‘wet room’ for Art, a gorgeous new library space, and so much more. We won’t know ourselves!

During this year, our school also underwent its four yearly review. The Reviewer, Mr Branko Lukic was incredibly impressed with our school, especially around our ‘guaranteed and viable curriculum’, noting that our units of work were incredibly well documented. He also commented on the positive attitude of the staff and the students, and the feedback he received that “KSC is like a big family.” The school leadership received strong endorsement. The outcomes of this review have provided us with a clear path forward in our next Strategic Plan which will see us continue to improve in teaching and learning.

Another highlight this year were students being able to get out and about again on excursions, sports and camps. It has been truly fabulous to see the young people of our community once again being active and social in a number of settings. Learning at KSC doesn’t just take place in the classrooms; being able to once again take up opportunities for student learning in our community and beyond has made the students all the more happier.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to say farewell. In 2023, I will take up the role of Principal at Mirboo North Secondary College. It is hard to leave Korumburra Secondary, a community for which I feel very strongly connected to. It has been an incredible privilege to lead KSC over the past four and a half years as it has continued to grow into an exemplary school. I would like to especially acknowledge and thank John Wilson who will also now take over as Acting Principal. I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to work with such a fine school leader. I would also like to thank Matt Row and Samantha Norrey, and the Community Engagement Group for their support and guidance over my tenure as Principal, and the exceedingly dedicated and committed staff.

To our community, and on behalf of John and myself, we wish you a very Merry Christmas, a safe holiday, and a Happy New Year.
