2023 Shibuyu Visit

How exciting! International travel is happening again and the students from Shibuya, Japan, are coming to Nazareth College.

The visit is for only one week in 2023 but the week will be filled with fun, adventures and new friendships.

The students arrive 14 March 2023 and will leave 21 March 2023.

Please consider hosting a student for this week. Australian culture and your unique families have so much to offer that is different to Japanese culture and these

students are so keen to learn about you, Australia and Nazareth College. Lifelong friendships may be initiated.

Schools Cup 2022 at St John’s Regional College

On Friday 14 October Nazareth College participated in the Schools Cup – a football (soccer) tournament organized by Sports Group Melbourne.  Nazareth College was one of the four schools who took part in this tournament alongside Forest Hill College, Carwatha College and St John’s Regional College.

Nazareth had three junior teams in the form of two boys and a girls’ team.

The event commenced with students in high and competitive spirits among all the four participating Schools.

Team B 8/9 boys played very well in the 4 matches winning 2-1 against Carwatha College and losing 2-Nil, 3-Nil and 2-4 against St John’s, Forest Hill College and Nazareth College team A in semifinals. The highlight of the day for team B was the 2-1 win against Carwatha with the second score, recorded before the final whistle, by our skillful captain, Santos Morales.

All the players worked hard, contributed to the overall performance, conducted themselves outstandingly, made friends and developed their skills.

Special mention to the following players:

  • Captain Santos who scored 3 of 4 goals
  • Tyler Tomson who stopped more than 7 goals
  • Spencer Crellin, the solid defender, who made scoring a mission impossible for the opponent teams.

Although we didn’t win the tournament, it was a worthwhile experience and activity for the Nazareth College students and coaches who participated on the day.

Year 8 Humanities Excursion

Coastal Landforms: St Kilda Beach

This year, we have introduced an excursion for the Geography component of Year 8 Humanities. With a change of landform focus from previous years, this year the focus was Coastal Landforms where the students look at the various geographical features, the human impact and natural elements.

In their fieldwork, the students visited four different spots along the foreshore of St Kilda Beach. At each of the sites, under the guidance of their teachers, they had to consider the relative location, seasonal uses, vegetation, lithosphere and consider recreation and management areas. They were able to see the impacts of erosion from both natural and human impacts and note if there were particular species living in each of location.

With their investigation, the students took photos of the various sites to help form part of their fieldwork report. It was a very educational and worthwhile experience for the students.

As two classes went each day over the course of three different days, two of the days included brilliant sunshine, with one being a bit overcast and with some rain showers.

Considering we have missed so many opportunities for excursions over the years due to lockdowns and restrictions, as a treat the students were permitted to conclude the day with an optional McDonalds lunch.

They were brilliant days for the students and a great opportunity to learn more about the impacts on Coastal Landforms.

I thank the Year 8 Humanities team for their efforts in putting this excursion together - Mr Brenton, Mr Ryan, Mr Chan and Mrs Murphy.

Presentation Evening

We were delighted to hold our 2022 Presentation Evening with an audience.  As well as the awards presented on the evening, musical numbers and speeches were also part of the night.  It was the last time that the 2022 School Leaders had the responsibility of hosting an event at the College, before handing the reins, so to speak, to the newly elected 2023 College Leaders.

We thank everyone who contributed to the evening and congratulate our award winners.
