Year 12 Muckeration Day

Last Thursday our hard-working Year 12 students took the chance to let their hair down and celebrate their last day of school as part of ‘Muckeration Day’.

This year, the theme of ‘Heroes and Villains’ saw the school filled with all our favourite superheroes, like Superman, Spiderman, Ironman, Batman and Wonderwoman. The villains were a sight to behold with the likes of Voldemort, The Grinch, Cruella De Ville and Gargamel sneaking around and up to mischief.

In the whole school assembly, we were taken on the journey of the classic battle between good and evil. After an impressive entry, we enjoyed songs by the Senior School band, video montages, a heartfelt message by Dr Fernando, and a standout performance of an original song by Hope Barnett-Harris that left barely a dry eye in the room. It was a delight to celebrate coming to the end of the Year 12 journey with these students, who have had a tumultuous time through the COVID-19 years leading to this point in their schooling. A special mention to the Year 12 leaders, Lou Gooding, Isaiah Smith, Dan Collier and Holly Sharman (unfortunately unwell on the day), who coordinated and ran the assembly.

The afternoon consisted of a yummy lunch, games on the oval, and a final time of sharing and reflection.

All in all, this year’s Muckeration Day was a great time to celebrate and acknowledge the achievement of finishing Year 12. We wish the Year 12 students all the very best as they embark on their adventures ahead, and will continue to keep them in our prayers as they face the busy time of VCE exams. Congratulations class of 2022!

Long Ago – original song by Hope Barnett-Harris, Year 12, Class of '22

Accidental conversations,

locker codes and combinations.

Hiding from the weather,

in the study centre.

Laughing in the theatrette,

rushing when I’ve overslept.

9 am starts,

and golden stars.

What was normal and mundane,

what was part of everyday

has begun to quickly fade,

has begun to quickly change.

Time is fast, time is slow,

we’re so young, we’re so old.

One day we’ll look back and go:

“High school was so long ago.”

Tanning on the fake grass,

talking as we walk to class.

Tryna balance all my books,

plus all of the notes I took.

Turning the switch on and off,

getting the heater to work.

Simply being near my friends,

knowing I can count on them.

All the shared google docs.

Tryna find a tissue box.

Tryna find a pair of socks.

Tryna find a working clock.

Jodi’s time efficiency,

Nicki Joiner’s energy.

Gossiping in art with Bre,

thank you for the therapy.

Mr. and Mrs. Payze,

the parents of this whole grade.

Tresidder being so kind,

Mr. Park’s preposterous life.

I will miss all of the staff.

I am singing on behalf,

of my graduating class.

We will not forget the past even though

Time is fast, time is slow,

we’re so young, we’re so old.

one day we’ll look back and go:

“High school was so long ago.”

Apparently a goat ran down the stairs in Year 9,

Apparently the water ran out of supply.

Apparently the microwave caught on fire,

Apparently we’ve driven teachers to retire.

Apparently there was a very sacred space,

apparently a lot has happened at this place.

I think it’s safe to say I won’t forget,

any of the time I spent here at MECS.

Time is fast, time is slow,

we’re so young, we’re so old.

One day we’ll look back and go:

“High school was so long ago”

Look at how we’ve grown
