Profiles of the Board

Board Profiles
The Board would like to share with the MECS community something of who they are, so that you know more about the parent leadership of the school. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing profiles of our School Board members. Here is another.
Tim Van der Veen
Tim first became part of the MECS community in 1987 as a Year 7 student and continued until completion of VCE in 1992. 15 years later, the connection was re-established when Joshua, Tim & Amy’s first of 4 sons began Prep and over the 15 years since, two of their sons have graduated VCE with 2 still attending at high school level.
For the past 27 years, Tim has been working in his family business which operates in the construction industry. His current responsibilities see him focussed in the area of Product Development and Research & Development as well as being one of the company Directors. With no formal business qualifications, Tim values that he was taught how to learn at MECS as he has had to draw on this ever since the inception of the business and the need to acquire skills pertaining to all functions of being in business.
Tim and his family attend Kilsyth South Baptist Church and have done so for almost 10 years now. They are active members of the music & sound team and it continues to be an absolute blessing for them to be able to see their whole family embrace and grow in their Christian walk as part of that community.
Tim joined the Board in early 2021 and has developed a tremendous appreciation of both the complexity of running MECS as well as the leadership charged with this responsibility. He is particularly motivated by the idea of All of Life for Christ and how this looks in an educational context.
