Sub School Report

Sub School News

Another productive month within the sub schools has well and truly seen all students settle into the 2018 schooling year.

Congratulations to those students who participated in the College Swimming Day. A great day was had by all in attendance and the student behaviour could not have been better. If you missed out on the day ensure you get your form in and make the most of the remaining two college carnivals this year.

Elevate visited our senior school students completing their VCE. The year 11 students were involved in a session concerning study techniques and the year 12 students had a session surrounding time management, both integral skills needed to become a successful student. Elevate is a company who Lyndhurst Secondary College is working with in 2018 and hopefully beyond to improve upon student performance in the senior years. So far the feedback from senior students has been very positive.

Congratulations to the senior girls volleyball team, ably coached by Miss Cresp who managed to secure third place in the round robin competition earlier this year. A fantastic effort.

The first sub school assemblies focussed on Respect and being an inclusive and tolerant community with the overriding messages surrounding “give respect, receive respect” and “if well all want the same things, are we really that different”.

These assemblies tied in well with our Bullyzero Incursion which ran for students in years 7 – 10 on Monday 5th March. Bullyzero is an evidence based bullying prevention program designed to prevent Bullying from occurring in schools. We hope our students took plenty from the sessions.

Over the next month students are encouraged to continue to engage themselves in as many programs as possible at Lyndhurst Secondary College, maintain a high attendance and depict the college values of Respect, Commitment, Integrity and Excellence, all while remembering that everything we do is done with High Expectations.

Last month, a bunch of excited, and somewhat apprehensive, Year 7 students set off to Phillip Island for a three day camp. The weather did not disappoint and students were able to swim, surf, fish and construct sand castles on the beach as a way to build strong friendships and teamwork skills with the other students. Although slightly nervous about setting up their own tents, students worked well with each other, problem solving when putting their tent up and manipulating mattresses so everyone could fit in! Students had a fantastic time, were incredibly well behaved and came home with new friends, new skills, and a new found love for the outdoors!

My school camp reflection by Sophia

If you didn't know, on the 21st February it was our Year 7 camp. There were a variety of games, activities as we built new friendships. The games we played included 'Sand Castles', building castles in the sand and making a story about them. We also had teams - green, pink, light blue, dark blue, purple and orange so we could keep score! Another game involved lots of running around to try and get a pole and finally, we played tug of war. On the first day we had a night walk and found a crab and a jellyfish. The next day we enjoyed fishing and surfing. During our fishing activity mostly everyone caught something but its safe to say, we all LOVED the surfing. It was a great experience even watching 'Finding Dory'.
