Year 9 - 10
Year 9 Humanities - Practical Mapping
Students have been learning about the principles of mapping using the acronym 'BOLTSS'. They have also identified different types of maps and their functions. On Friday afternoon, 9B applied this knowledge to the creation of their own chalk maps on the centre courts.
Year 10 Humanities - Mind maps as a writing tool
Year 10 Humanities students developed their reading and writing skills by creating mind maps to summarise the main impacts of end of World War One. This task required them to apply skills collaboratively that were initially modelled in class by the teacher.
Building a Voice - Reading at St Joseph's
On Wednesday 6th February, the Building a Voice Year 9 elective started their semester long reading program with St Joseph’s Primary. 17 students from Year 9 walked over to the school to join in with the Grade 2, 3, & 4’s as they worked through their structured reading lesson. The students worked as mentors for the little ones; they listened as they read and assisted them in making meaning of the texts.
On the way back to school the students commented on the fact that their Illuminate reading comprehension skills were being taught in the St Joseph’s classrooms so the students felt familiar and confident to offer support and guidance. This program will continue every Wednesday of semester one. Giving our Year 9 students a wonderful opportunity to develop relationships and their leadership skills.
Building a Voice - Primary swimming carnival assistance
On Friday the 8th and Friday the 16th of February, the students of the Year 9 Building a Voice elective were able to attend the Cobram Primary and Barooga Primary’s swimming carnival as volunteers. These students spent the day enjoying the festivities and supporting the primary swimmers in their competitive races. Our Year 9’s demonstrated wonderful leadership and initiative, being involved in time keeping, marshalling and in water support for the primary swimmers.
