MUSIC DEPARTMENT

In the final weeks of 2016 the Music Department has been out and about performing at many end of year celebrations.

YEAR 8 LUNCHTIME VOCAL CONCERT

On Tuesday 29 November fourteen Year 8 students performed in the Music Auditorium to an appreciative audience of staff and students. There were three group numbers performed with enthusiasm from the musicals Tangled, Rent and Hercules. Alice Duchesne and Naomi Kricheli accompanied themselves while Phoebe Lock and Clare Wever both captivated us with their fabulous voices and acting skills. Gizelle Sakr ended the concert with her powerful yet sensitive rendition of Gravity to great cheers and applause.  Thank you to Myles Keleman, Caleb Goldwaser and Michael Birkett for being great sound engineers on the day.

RECENT AND UPCOMING PERFORMANCES

The Junior Concert on Thursday 1 December was outstanding with a high level of musicianship displayed by the junior and intermediate students. It was fantastic to see the many parents and friends there supporting the developing musicians.

Bay Street Festival, Port Melbourne gave the students in the Junior Clarinet Choir, the Senior Clarinet Choir and the Saxophone Quartet a chance to perform for a wide audience. Congratulations to all the students involved for their outstanding musical demonstration. Thank you also to Ms Su Rogerson for her ongoing development of these ensembles.

Orientation night and day for the 2017 Year 7 students provided the Intermediate Stage Band with a great opportunity to perform for prospective students. Congratulations on representing the school and the Music Department so professionally. Thank you to Mr Martin West and his ongoing guidance of this ensemble.

UPCOMING PERFORMANCES

The Junior School Assembly on Friday 9 December will provide a number of students the chance to successfully perform in front of their peers.  Congratulations to Chloe James and Chloe Swan who will perform the national anthem, and the Year 7 Advanced String Group, under the guidance of Ms Clare Bugeja and Mr Stuart Cook, which will be an outstanding performance. Well done!

McKinnon Christmas Choir

On Sunday 11 December twenty students from McKinnon Secondary College (including three past students from 2015) will be performing Christmas carols and songs at the Bentleigh Uniting Church in Centre Road. It is a Christmas/Advent service focusing on children. They will also perform three numbers with the Coatesville Primary School Choir who are conducted by former McKinnon student Christine Rainford (nee Ristrom). The service begins at 10:00 am followed by a sumptuous morning tea at 11:15 am. All welcome!

Senior Stage Band will be performing at Presentation Night on Tuesday 13 December under the guidance of Mr Dmitry Serebrianik.

HOLIDAY HIRE

Students who are wishing to hire musical instruments over the January break will need to complete a hire form, available from the Music Centre from 1 December.  Instruments will not be available until after 13 December.

PERSONAL INSTRUMENTS

All students who have used their own instruments need to remove these from the store room by Tuesday 13 December.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Finally, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.  Practise well and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
