Soccer skills with Connor

 Soccer skills with Connor:

If you watch the short tv clips in the video you will see why it is so important to be able to dribble at speed, control the ball with different body parts and shoot with both feet.

All you will need to get ready for this lesson is the following equipment:

A soccer ball

Wall Space

Household items to use as cones such as soft toys

You could use 2 garden chairs as goal posts if you do not have a pop up goal

For the keepie-uppie challenge use a balloon to start.

Watch the attached video link on Google Slides

Some will be more challenging than others, just work at your own pace, speed up the skills as you go and remember to practice with both feet.

Coaching Points for Dribbling:

  1. Relaxed body (upper body over the ball)
  2. Eyes on the ball as well as the opponents feet when playing a game
  3. Head up when possible to see here opponents and team mates are.
  4. Soft, small touches.
  5. Close control of the ball.

Coaching points for Passing:

1. Select proper weight and timing of pass.

2. Look at your target (goal or team mate) before making the pass

3. Eyes on the ball at the moment of contact.

4. Good first touch to control and prepare ball.

5. Keep your toes up and the ankle locked of your kicking foot.

6. Place your non-kicking foot next to the ball, pass with your instep and follow through.

Art - Tuesday

We are continuing learning about the elements of art. This week we are going to keep  looking at shape and form.

Now that you know a lot more about shape and form in art after making your poster last lesson, we are going to make an artwork inspired by the artist Alexander Calder.

Alexander Calder was famous for his moving mobile sculptures.

Watch this video to see more of his work:

For your artwork you will need:

Coloured paper

Straws or wooden skewers (or if you don’t have these, thin sticks from the garden)

Hole punch

Pencil

Scissors

String

Tape

Task:

You are going to make a moving mobile sculpture! Watch the video to show you how to make it. Remember if you don’t have straws you can use wooden skewers or thin sticks from the garden.

Because this work is 3D, you don’t have to keep it in your Specialist home learning book. You can hang it somewhere around your house instead!

Reflection:

What elements of art does your sculpture use?

What happens when you hold your sculpture near a wall?

What was challenging about this task?

For Parents:

What can be interesting about Calder’s work is not only the artwork but the shadows that the mobiles create. See if you can discuss with your child how the artwork makes shadows when held near to a blank wall.

Performing Arts - Thursday

Week 4

In today’s lesson you’re going to be hair and make-up designers!

For today’s lesson you’ll need coloured pencils and paper (or your notebook). You’ll also need access to the internet if you’d like to watch the clip that’s attached at the end.

Task 1: Stage make-up and hair are important when it comes to creating a character. They can help the audience understand all about your character and who they are. Your first task is to practice your make-up skills for a few different characters: a ballerina; an old man; a rock star; a cat.

Use the worksheet below to help you set out your work; you can copy it into your notebook, or you can print the sheet if you’re able to.

Think: What colours will you need to use in your make-up design in order to show the different characters and their personalities? How will you represent the different characters by the way you ‘style’ their hair?

Task 2: Now you’re going to create a hair and make-up design for your own character. Again, think about your character and how you can represent who they are.

Remember: lifestyle can have a great impact on appearance. Take the time now to consider your character's hobbies, profession or job, and daily habits. How does each of these things affect their physical appearance?

For example: Do they have dark circles under their eyes because they don’t get much sleep? Is their skin tone quite pink from too much time in the sun? Or, do they have perfectly styled hair and a spotless appearance because of their high-powered job?

Use a new piece of paper or sheet in your notebook. Draw the head of your character (just like the examples you had in task 1 and design the make-up and hair look for your own monologue character.

The look can be bold and bright, or more subtle and natural… it’s up to you to decide.

Task 3 (Optional):  Click on the link below to watch a backstage tour of the stage production of ‘Beauty and the Beast'. It shows how the actors are transformed into their on-stage characters with the use of make-up and wigs.
