Throwing and Catching
Physical Education, Week 4 Term 2
Throwing and Catching:
Equipment required:
Tennis ball or
Larger Ball
Beanbag (a small soft toy or pair of folded adult socks will do)
Wall space
Teaching Points:
• Watch the ball into your hands
• Put your little fingers together and make a “birds’ nest or bowl”
• Stand with you your feet shoulder width apart
• To catch have your elbows in front of your body
• Try to move your hands with the ball so that your hands are relaxed and soft when you catch the ball.
Watch the following video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9gZjGy9vB4 and go through the skills with Connor. Remember if you can do a trick 5 times in a row move onto the next challenge. If you find a skill too hard keep practising but maybe try it with a larger ball or a beanbag. Throw the ball up to head height or just above.
If you are attempting Connor's soccer keepie-uppie challenge start by letting the ball bounce in between each kick.
Additional Activities:
Make up a trick of your own, remember it is only a good trick if the ball ends up in your hand/hands.
Ask your parents to help you print off the following and colour them in. Connor's team, Western United play in a green/black shirt and black shorts.

Week 4:
You'll need your notebook or some A4 paper and a pencil. You'll also need to have coloured pencils too if you have time for (or choose to do) the extension activity.
Task 1: Today we are thinking about the ‘villains’ and ‘heroes’ in fairy tales. Villains are the ‘baddies’ of the story, whilst heroes are the good ones. In today’s lesson you can choose to be a hero or a villain!
In your notebook, make a list of some of the fairy tale villains OR heroes (you don’t need to do both) that you can think of. Some examples of fairy tales you can use are: Snow White; Little Red Riding Hood; Cinderella; Hansel and Gretel. Try to come up with a list of about 5 or 6 villains or heroes.
Once you’ve got your list, think about the things they have in common. Can you write down a few words in your notebook to describe these villains (e.g: cruel; sneaky) or heroes (e.g: innocent; sweet; honest)
Task 2: Now you’re going to create your own villain or hero. Use these steps to help you…
- Create a frozen pose (Think: How will your face and body position change to show who you are, a villain or a hero?)
- Add a walk or stride that clearly shows your villain’s personality (Think: How will you change your body language or the way that you move. For example, will your Villain be hunched over or standing tall?
- Add a gesture that your character might use (gestures are movements usually done with hands or head, for example-tapping fingers together)
- Add a sound, word or phrase that you think your villain or hero would use. (Think: How will you change the way your voice sounds in order to show your character’s personality?)
- Now put it all together to become a villain or a hero!
Task 3 (optional extension): Draw a picture of your villain or hero character and give him/her a name. Label your picture with words to describe the way you changed your facial expression, body language, body position, movement and voice. (eg: Body: Hunched; Facial Expression: small, mean mouth; Movement: sneaky and creeping etc).
