Welcome to Term 2! 

Welcome back to all families and our Grade 3-6 students. We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are all rested and ready for an exciting term of LEARNING!

 

In Reading, the Grade 3-6’s be learning about the comprehension strategies searching for & using information as well as inferring. As part of this unit, students will be developing their skills to notice details in text features that provide important information in comprehending a text. Students will also learn how to make inferences to understand a character’s feelings, their traits, themes and the message of the text. 

In Writing, the Grade 3-6’s will be learning about how to write persuasive and explanation texts. The students will be focusing on convincing their audience about their beliefs on a topic and explaining how or why something happens. 

In Mathematics, students will apply learnt strategies and skills when investigating and solving problems within the mathematical areas of addition and subtraction. Students will learn to confidently use mental and written strategies including the mental strategies, jump, build to ten, split, and bump as well as written vertical algorithm strategies.

 

In Integrated Studies, the Grade 3-4’s will be learning about discovery, students will unpack the ‘Age of Exploration’ with a specific focus on Australian explorers. Students will analyse how exploration has shaped our lives.

 

The Grade 5-6’s will be engaging in the ‘Speak Up!’ unit, this unit has a focus on the values of Australian Democracy and the key features of the electoral process and development of policies and laws. They will analyse how Australian politics shapes the lives of Australians and how to persuade others. The Grade 5-6 students will also be exploring how to become a young leader in their community. They will be working in small groups to fulfill a leadership role that supports the school in a specific way.

Morning Routine

Please ensure your child arrives at school between 8:45am-9am. It is important to be at school on time, so they are organized and ready to learn. 

Late arrivals are required to get a late pass from the office and then enter the classroom quietly without distracting the class.

 

It is important to allow your child to be responsible for carrying and placing their bag in their lockers and changing their take home reading book. 

 

Students who take devices home must ensure they are completely charged and ready for use the following day.

Some important reminders…

Sunsmart

All students must wear a wide brimmed hat at school EVERY day. Students without hats are required to stay undercover in the quiet area at recess and lunchtime. 

 

Take Home Reading Books

Take home reading books are sent home each day. These are intended to be “easy” for your child to read. Please read this book with your child or listen to them read and sign their diary. Ensure they are returned daily. Teachers will be monitoring their home reading weekly.

 

School Uniform

As per the school’s uniform policy, it is imperative that all students are wearing the correct full school uniform, every day. Having a school uniform and wearing it appropriately and correctly allows students to feel equal and promotes a sense of identity and pride for their school. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school uniform every day, including hair accessories and socks.
