Welcome to Term 2!
Welcome back to all families and our Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are all rested and ready for an exciting term of LEARNING!
In Reading, the Preps will be learning word solving and self-monitoring strategies to help them read with understanding. The Grade 1/2’s will be learning how to make connections, predictions as well as using text features to search for information. These strategies will help them read for meaning and gain a deeper appreciation for what they read. In Writing, the Preps will be learning how to write a recount, and the Grade 1/2 students will be learning to write procedural and explanation texts. In Mathematics, the Preps will be focusing on Number Sense, including learning about numbers to 20 and Geometry (2D and 3D Shapes) and the Grade 1/2s will be learning addition and subtraction strategies, including the count on and count back strategies.
All students will develop understandings around the integrated topic, “The Changing World”.
The Preps will be focusing on how our community has changed over time and the Grade 1/2 students will be focusing on the topic, “Mighty Melbourne”, where they will be discovering
well-known Melbourne landmarks as well as gaining a greater appreciation for the many multicultural communities within Melbourne.

Morning Routine
Please ensure your child arrives at school between 8:45am-9am. It is important to be at school on time, so they are organized and ready to learn.
Late arrivals are required to enter through the school office and then enter the classroom quietly without distracting the class.
It is important for your child to be responsible for carrying and placing their bag in their lockers, and changing their take home reading book daily.

Sunsmart
As a SunSmart school, we encouraged all our students to continue wearing a wide-brimmed hat at school this term.
Take Home Reading Books
Take home reading books are sent home each day. These are intended to be “easy” for your child to read. Please read this book with your child or listen to them read daily and sign their diary. Ensure they are returned daily. Teachers will be monitoring their home reading weekly.
School Uniform
Students are required to be in FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM every day. Please label all of your child’s clothing and personal belongings clearly and legibly.
