Year 10 Ceroc Dance Workshop
Last Friday we celebrated the resumption of our Ceroc Dance Workshop partnership with Brigidine College when Year 10 hosted Brigidine students at Oxford Falls. Despite the wet weather, respect, teamwork and a growth mindset to learning the dance patterns were of the highest order.
We congratulate our students and their dance partners who were the Best and Fairest winners on the day:
1st: John Carrol and Maya
2nd: Joe Cooper and Sophie
3rd: Ben Vacarella and Yana
4th: Elliot Sanders and Tahlia
5th: Luke Haldane and Clair
closely followed by Billy Lineen, Luke Mooney, Joe Cooper, Liam Boswell and Jonathan Tsibiridis.
Thanks to SPX staff who facilitated: Mr Mark Pawlak, Ms Laura Coombe, Mr Sam Di Sano and Mr Anthony Horan.
Year 12 Mercy College Afternoon Tea
Our Year 12 Student Leadership Team enjoyed the hospitality of their Mercy College counterparts last Friday where they developed an agenda to take forward the cooperative and collaborative activities between our two schools. Planning is afoot for St Pius X to host a Prefect Afternoon Tea on Wednesday 11 May.
Thank you to Mrs Brenda Timp, Principal of Mercy College, and Olivia Hester, Mercy College Captain for the hospitality extended and the meeting which will further enhance the relationship between our communities.
Iftar Dinner
Thank you to the following students who will represent St Pius X at the Iftar Dinner to celebrate the conclusion and learn more about Ramadan with our Muslim interfaith partners Amity College at Auburn: Eamon Boyle, Tom Cleary, Thomo Wilkins, Jacob Chang, and Nick Fragiacomo. Ms Guerrera is fielding some other applications as we go to print. We will be joined by members of the Year 11 Mercy Leadership Team who will travel with our Minibus.
The dinner will be held this Thursday evening and the students will be able to share their ecumenical learnings in their Studies of Religion classes. The parallels across our Holy Easter Triduum next weekend will make our Gospel reflections and prayer all the more meaningful.
Music Charity Collection
Please see attached a call for donations of functioning musical instruments and equipment to support those affected by recent natural disasters including the Lismore floods.
If you have an instrument or working equipment you would like to donate please email scummins@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au and deliver the equipment to the Band Room this Thursday or Friday morning.
Mrs Kate Vaccher of the Performing Arts Parents Association (PAPA) has kindly offered to coordinate delivery of the donations to the Lewisham collection point on Saturday for what is a very worthy cause.
House Vice Captain Appointments Semester 1 2022
The process of appointing our House Vice Captains for 2022 has now concluded and I congratulate the following boys who will assume these positions of responsibility as we head into our Winter and Athletic seasons next term.
In some cases the leaders have been re-appointed from the 2021 Semester 2 season which was significantly affected by COVID-19 lockdown and we will celebrate their appointment to a hopefully uninterrupted remainder of the year at a Sports Assembly in Term 2.
Peer Support Years 5, 7 and 11
Our 5th Peer Support Session was conducted Period 3 on Monday this week. The next session will bring our formal program to conclusion with a gathering at Beauchamp Park during Period 4, extending into Lunchtime, on Friday 29 April. Students should remember to bring their lunch to this extended session.
Opens and U13s Rugby Master Class
It was great to see our Opens Rugby Squad providing our U13s players with a master class at Tuesday training this week. The integration between our senior and younger players was a great innovation from our Development Officer Mike Cross. We look forward to as many U13s as possible attending Rugby Camp on 21 and 22 April (details in Sport Section) where we hope to conclude with a training match.
Red Dirt Expedition
Expressions Of Interest forms from Year 9 to 12 students who are interested in participating in our Red Dirt Expedition between 26 June and 2 July can be collected from Mr Brannan.
The expedition will visit and connect with rural, remote and aboriginal communities, cultural sites and schools in Western NSW including Coonabarabran, Baradine, Coonamble, Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke and Dubbo.
ANZAC Day
The College will again be represented by a contingent of student leaders and students at The Chatswood Garden of Remembrance Dawn Service and Club Willoughby Morning Commemoration on ANZAC Day this year. Please see Mr Brannan if you would like to represent the school at these or other events.
Visit from Professor Dennis Foley
We greatly look forward to Monday 2 May when in the lead up to Reconciliation Week and our Red Dirt Expedition later in Term 2, proud Cammeraygal man, Professor Dennis Foley, will visit the College to share his story of growing up on his grandmother’s Cammeraygal country. Professor Foley has an MBA and PhD and lectures at Canberra University while dedicating some of his time to sharing his rich knowledge of Cammeraygal culture and the sustainable living practices which allowed Aboriginal people to thrive for 60,000 years.
Our student Reconciliation Action Plan Team will plan for Dennis’ visit over the coming weeks. Please see Mr Brannan if you would like to be involved in these preparations.
Upcoming events
Here are some upcoming events for students to be involved in:
St Anthony’s Terrey Hills
Saturday 28 May “Laudato Si” Call to Action.
Sunday 29 May Singing Up Country Reconciliation Concert.
Please see Mr Brannan if you would like to consider being involved and represent the College at these or other events.
