BE INVOLVED, BE CONNECTED

5/6A TERM HIGHLIGHTS

This term we have had many exciting experiences, including moving into our new learning space in the discovery building.

One of the best experiences we have had is meeting and forming friendships with our prep buddies. It has been great to do so many amazing activities with them, from sharing stories, a teddy bears picnic and our Harmony day celebrations.

We have done lots of learning outside of the classroom with having had the opportunity to participate in a 4-week sailing program, lawn bowls tournament, and a T-ball Gala day.

These activities allowed us to work as a team, feel connected to our community and be involved.

We have enjoyed challenging ourselves in literacy, especially writing. We have been working hard on developing our recount writing skills. We have expanded our knowledge of the different sentence types.

We have had lots of fun in our specialist class, making a wire outline of our face and developing a new country in Spanish. In STEM we have been melting things, to learn all about change.

In curiosity, our focus was Australian history. We were able to choose from Indigenous culture, Ned Kelly, the Gold Rush or World War 1. We developed our questioning skills, by posing wondering about this topic and this directed our learning. We developed our researching skills by using devices and the library to answer our questions about a variety of Australian historic events. We celebrated our learning by having a Curiosity Expo yesterday afternoon with our parents and families on the netball court. It was great to share our new knowledge with everyone.

Looking forward to seeing what next term, holds for us.

YEAR 3-6 LEARNING OUTSIDE SCHOOL

Our 3-6 students have been fortunate to have so many  wonderful opportunities this term

within the school and outside. 30 of students participated in the 4 week sailing program, where they went from being novice to being able to sail  2 different types of boats independently. This program was fabulous to watch as students put our school values into actions. They worked in teams, used excellent communication skills to successfully navigate their boats around the lake. Students were actively involved in mastering a new skill by listening to the instructors, watching demonstrations and then trialling their new learning.  "Sailing was amazing and I'd love to do it again"- Taimane

Monday, last week 10 of the grade 5/6 students walked to Middle Park Lawn bowls club. Students were divided into pairs to challenge Galiliee Primary School. We played 3 games of 50 mins each, the volunteers were amazing and really helpful in helping teach us the correct techniques and rule of the game. It took determination and resilience when our bowls didn't go where we wanted them too, but we had a great day. Mieka and Taimane, played with enthusiasm and desire to do their best and it paid off for them as they took away the bronze medal at the end of the day. "I loved mastering a new sport, and winning a medal."- Mieka

Our 3-6 students, decided to take on another sporting challenge of T-ball. They attended a Gala day, where several other school were in attendance such as Docklands, Albert Park and Port Melbourne. We had 2 teams, the students were really connected, because when they weren't playing we were able to cheer on the other SMPPS team. Students received awards for good sportsmanship.

We would like to offer a sincere appreciation to all the teachers, staff and parents. For volunteering their time and supporting us in developing a wide range of skills.

From all the 3-6 students, Thank you!
