Principals Report

Welcome back to Term 2

I’d like to wish you all a warm welcome back to Term 2, especially to our students and families who are joining our school community for the first time.

ANZAC Day

On April 25th I had the pleasure of attending the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Mt Macedon Memorial Cross. Our College Captains Oscar and Bridget represented the school by completing a reading as part of the service and laying a wreath on behalf of the GSC School Community.

Acting Assistant Principal, Richard Palmer, and one of our vice captains, Sienna, represented the college at the Gisborne ANZAC service, with Sienna laying a wreath on behalf of the GSC School Community.

On our first day of school, we were so lucky to have been able to hold a whole school assembly, for the first time in a year, which allowed us to commemorate ANZAC day as a school community, and pay our respects to those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice and helped shape this wonderful country. Dr Frank Donovan OAM, was once again our special guest, who sang a song to the assembly about the importance of recognising the many different ways that all sorts of people contributed to the war effort.

Our student representatives did a wonderful job of coordinating and leading this assembly, and I would like to say a big thank you to Bridget, Oscar, Sienna, Charlie and Charlotte, and Thomas for their contributions both before and during the assembly.

Landscaping Student consultation

I’d like to acknowledge the work of a number of students who yesterday participated in a consultation session with the landscaping team as part of our Capital works program. The students worked in small groups and provided invaluable feedback to the landscapers on how they use the physical space around the school, and what facilities (eg. Seating, cover) they would like to see in the new plan. Student voice and engagement in these processes is essential for the development of school pride and a sense of belonging, and I’m so pleased our students had the opportunity to be involved.

Management of COVID-19 Household Contacts

This is a reminder to ensure you are aware of your responsibilities relating to the management of household contacts.

Students who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are not required to quarantine. They may return to school as long as they undertake rapid antigen tests (RAT) 5 times during their 7-day period. They are required to notify the school that they are a household contact.

Students aged 8 years and above who are household contacts are required to wear face masks when indoors at school unless they have a valid exemption.

If a student household contact returns a positive RAT result, they must isolate for 7 days.

Please see further in this email for other reminders about current COVID guidelines.
