UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY SCIENCE AND  ENGINEERING WEEK

Year 10 students Charlie Conway and Mitch Davoren have recently returned from the University of Technology in Sydney where they participated in a week long Science and Engineering Work Experience program. The boys experiences are outlined below.

"We recently attended the University of Technology Sydney to participate in a work experience program with around 50 other students. Throughout the week we participated in a number of different workshops run by engineers and uni students with different qualifications. We joined with others to design projects and compete in challenges. Each day we explored a different field of engineering ranging from biomedical to civil, electrical, mechanical and software engineering.

Workshops included building models of structures we had designed, extracting DNA from our own spit, programming a robotic arm to complete simple tasks and building circuits to power towns through the use of solar panels.

All in all, it was a great week and both of us got a lot out of it. It was good to get a better insight into the work that engineers do across all the different fields. We gained access to first hand knowledge about how to deal with the coming years as well as a look behind the scenes of one of the most prestigious universities in the world, allowing us to further our understanding and value for everything that is incorporated in engineering."

YEAR 10 MOCK INTERVIEWS

This week Year 10 students participated in Mock Interviews that were held in the College hall. In preparation for this students prepared resume’s and cover letters in Work Studies classes. Year 10 students have also been working on interview technique and preparing responses in these classes.

Twenty interviewers were sourced from a wide cross section of employment sectors and students were required to submit their cover letter and resume prior to their interview. Individual interviews lasted for 15 minutes with employers then providing feedback on students interview technique as well as their written applications.

Year 10 are to be highly commended for their approach, organisation and professionalism during this process. The feedback from all of our interviewers was exceptional.
