Performing Arts Captains’ Concert
Our first major concert for the year promises some unexpected performances as always. This year’s Captains, Jack L and Cameron M, have assembled a strong line up of students from across the College, some seasoned performers and others making their debut. There will be performances from some of our music ensembles, classroom groups and a preview of this year’s musical.
Entry is $3 which this year will include a ‘White Ribbon’. We encourage you to wear this to help raise awareness of White Ribbon Australia’s work to end men’s violence against women. All funds raised will support primary prevention initiatives in schools, workplaces and the broader community. Violence against women is never a private issue. By focusing on this issue, we hope to help break the silence around violence, to raise awareness as well as funds to support work to bring violence against women to an end. Violence against women is unacceptable, it is never the victim’s fault, help is always available and if you see something you should definitely say something. People need to know that they can make a difference; bringing an end to men’s violence against women will take a whole community approach.
The concert commences at 7.30pm in the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday 2 April.
No bookings are needed. Just turn up with your donation, proudly wear your ribbon and enjoy the entertainment.
College Middle School Play
Tickets for this year’s Middle School production, Roald Dahl’s, 'The Witches' go on sale in the final week of this term. A cast of 28 students has been assembled by Ms Jacqueline Flood. This is a faithful adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic story in which Boy (Sam W) and his Grandmother (Sofia C) defeat the Grand High Witch (Simona M) and her followers, who are holding a Conference in an English seaside hotel. During the struggle, Boy gets turned into a mouse.
The Witches are nothing like the ones who wear pointed hats and fly on broomsticks - they look very much like ordinary women, which helps their deception. Humour is provided by the vulgar Jenkins family, whose son, Bruno (Robert W), also becomes a mouse. There are two performances, Thursday 9 May at 7.30pm and Friday 10 May at 3.30pm.
VCE Theatre Studies Play
This year’s VCE Play is Mary Shelley’s, 'Frankenstein', adapted for the stage by Nick Dear. Tickets go on sale during the first week of next term. Containing some very strong and violent themes, this production is not for everyone, but will no doubt present excellent learning for the students. It is directed by Ms Jacquelyne Armstrong and will feature Graham V as ‘The Creature’. Only 40 tickets will be available to each performance as this play will be performed in the round, with the audience seated on stage. This will enhance the audience’s engagement in the story, which is told from the point of view of The Creature that Dr Frankenstein has created. There are three performances, 7.30pm on Thursday 23 May, 3.30pm on Friday 24 May and finally, 7.30pm on Saturday 25 May.
College Musical
A reminder to parents that cast and band involved in this year’s musical will be attending camp during the second week of the holidays. The group will depart Aitken College at 9.00am on Monday 15 April and will return around 3.30pm on Wednesday 17 April. The opportunity for intensive rehearsal and the social aspect it offers the cast is invaluable in the preparation each year.
