The 8R's

On occasion, I am asked what characteristics are important to me as an educator. The profile is simple it is my '8R’s'. A key element in all points is being the best we can at any given time and striving in all aspects of mental health, wellbeing and education. These include:

Relationships

  • Basically, being able to get along and how we respond to each other
  • Being able to respond to others respectfully
  • Communicating with all, initiating and continuing a conversation
  • Transition from one discussion to another

Regulate

  • To be able to self-regulate and cope with challenges
  • To control, adjust and manage a stimulus which can impact a response

Responsive

  • Relating to others and responding positively and with kindness
  • Always responding with respect and empathy
  • Consistent behaviour, how we respond and relate to others

Resilience

  • Coping mechanism
  • Maintaining a positive mindset e.g. glass is half full, rather than half empty
  • Resilience in the centre of how we function

Respect

  • We all have different opinions and respond the best way we can with what we have, however, it is crucial to respect all members in our diverse community
  • We focus on Fairview as a family, with shared values

Responsibility

  • We are responsible for our own actions, we are accountable
  • It is crucial we are responsible for each other and that we understand how to live together in our community

Rights

  • Children have the right to always be safe, to receive the best care possible
  • Our well-being is the core to growth and education
  • We all have this right!

Reflection

  • Time to think and reflect
  • This helps us grow and evolve, at all ages
