Out and About

Beacon Charter Signing

Today St. Joseph’s College hosted the Beacon Charter Signing Ceremony.  Students from St. Joseph’s College, Moama Anglican Grammar, River City Christian College and Echuca College attended the event which was hosted by the 2019 Beacon Leaders.  Also attending was the Beacon Board, local businesses and members of the Echuca Moama community.  The ceremony commenced with a Welcome to Country by Rick Ronnan, a Wollithigan elder, followed by an address from Ms Joanna Werner from Werner Production. Joanna is a three-time Emmy Nominated, AFI, AACTA and multi Logie award winning producer, producing Dance Academy, Ready For This, Secret City and many more.  Joanna spoke to students about her pathway into the world of producing and how to make the most out of your opportunities.

The students then each signed their schools' Beacon Board and by doing so made a public commitment to the Beacon Program by pledging “Ï willingly commit myself to acitive participation in the Echuca Moama Beacon Foundation Project and its programs.  I also pledge myself to exploring my career options and applying myself to my studies with the aim of moving on to further education, training or employment when I finish my time at this school.”

The morning programs demonstrated to the Echuca Moama community that our students are prepared to commit to their future and to also see that the Beacon sponsors and community members are here to support us and that they care about the future of our young men and women.

Poetry and Pizza Night

Students planned the event as a culmination of their study of a unit that required them to analyse and respond to the work of Australian poet, Chris Wallace-Crabbe. They invited family, friends and staff to share favourite poetry in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. The subject matter of the chosen poems ranged from humorous childhood favourites to deeply personal and emotionally challenging works. The event was well attended; enough to suggest that another poetry event might be planned for Term Three.

VCE Biology - Werribee Zoo Excursion

On Thursday 26 April VCE Unit 1 Biology class visited the Open Range Zoo at Werribee.  Here they looked at adaptations of living things to their environment. They also looked at the Eastern Barred Bandicoote's conservation and breeding program.

Cooking up a Storm in the Foods Room

There were many laughs, scrumptious food and amazing aromas coming out of the Foods Room  last Monday night at the Information evening.

The night was a huge success as Grade 6 students got to experience the thrill of cooking and eating their own delicious pancakes and chocolate chip cookies. We would like to thank the group of aspiring chefs from various year levels in the school that generously gave up their time to assist the Grade 6 students. The pancakes and chocolate chip cookies were a big hit with the students and parents alike. This was a really engaging way of showing how cooking can be fun and a great way of learning important life skills.

We look forward to working with the Grade 6 students next year as they learn to cook and design healthy meals. These are important skills and knowledge that will help to make them healthy, happy and independent.
