Library News

Book Week
Book Week is almost here!!!
The theme for this year’s Book Week is
READING IS MY SECRET POWER
For adults and children alike, reading can be a powerful secret in improving the quality of your life.
We are continuing to share the short listed books for 2019 during lessons. Stage 3 have enjoyed Cicada by Shaun Tan while other classes have enjoyed Heads and Tails by John Canty.
Book Donations
Book donations begin next Monday and will go till Thursday.
As in previous years the children will be able to donate a book to the library. This is one of the only fundraisers for the library and provides new books and funds to purchase new resources. The books will be in the library from Monday 19th August for children to come and peruse to purchase. They will be available for 2 weeks. Parents are most welcome to come with their child to purchase or send the money with them in an envelope labelled library purchase. The library will be open before school, at lunch times or after school till 4pm Monday –Thursday.
Before and after the book parade would also be a good time to visit the library.
For those not familiar with this fundraiser it works like this. The children purchase the book, a book plate is put on the first page indicating that the book was donated by your child, they are the first to borrow it and then it comes back to live in the library.

Activities for Book Week
Infants will complete a colouring in competition.
Primary can design a mask or special reading glasses, write an advertising jingle that sells reading as a secret power, or discover a book that is about secrets and write a book review. We will discuss these activities during library class.
Hopefully O’Connor students will visit again to share picture books with classes. This was a worthwhile activity last year.
