Maths

Recently, students in MLC have been learning about angles in Maths class. At the start of a new topic, we create a brainstorm about everything we already know about the topic. The children really impressed me with their prior knowledge of angles.

We began by creating a definition for what an angle is using specific words such as “distance” and “turning.” This was followed by looking at six types of angles and the characteristics of each of these angles.

Once we knew about the different types of angles, it was time to go exploring. We searched the classroom for angles, finding them everywhere. It is amazing how many angles you can find when you really start looking. The ones that stood out to us most were the right angles in the windows and the angles the hands of a clock make.

The next part of the topic was more challenging. It was time to measure an angle and even draw our own angles using a protractor. This was the first time using a protractor for the students so it was challenging but fun.

We are coming to a close on our angles unit, but the children are excited for our next topic on multiplication and division.

Kind Regards
