Year 9 & 10

Currently, two of the Year 9/10 Religion classes are looking at the holocaust- discussing the impact that it had on both society and the Jewish people.

To further expand our learning and knowledge about this topic; last week, the year 9/10 Religion classes took a trip down to Elsternwick to visit The Melbourne Holocaust Museum. The day consisted of engaging activities, and an opportunity to ask questions about the Holocaust, which helped us to apply that knowledge to other classroom activities.

We took part in a short introduction, followed by a thought provoking group activity; looking at artifacts from the time of the Holocaust, while linking it back to statements and stereotypes which were related to the Holocaust. This really helped us to gather together details about what was happening at the time and how discrimination happened so easily and then lead to the death of six million Jews. We learnt about why it is so important to always remember what happened in Europe during World War 1 to the Jewish people and how this can be prevented from occurring again.

After the activity, we gathered together to meet Paul Grinwald and ask him some important questions that we had written in class the week before. The answers to these questions were answered in depth, and gave us an insight into how Paul would hve had to handle the situation, and how he lived during the time of the holocaust.

Overall, It was a really interesting and educational day; learning many important concepts which we can definitely implement into our future religion lessons.
