ART

Leading up to NAIDOC week we had been exploring Aboriginal Art and various Aboriginal Artists. The senior students learnt about the Tjanpi Dessert weavers and weaved their own baskets from raffia. They are on display in our foyer and are fantastic. The junior students explored some techniques by Aboriginal artists such as lines, dots and cross hatching. They responded to their own experiences of being down by the river and drew what they see and hear. We were also very fortunate to have Neva Takele lead us in an Aboriginal Art and Culture Incursion the last week of term 2 which was amazing.

We have just begun exploring and responding to collage artists this term and are beginning to look at the works of Pete Cromer and Sally Payne. Students have started to create their own collage pieces and are excited to see them develop over the next few weeks.

SPORT

In Sport we have begun the term without an athletics unit. Students in foundation, grade one and two had a focus on running and relays. While the students in Grades three, four, five and six focused on shot put.

Our gardeners have been busy fixing up our long jump put ready for a week of jumping. Our students have been keen and eager to practice their skills in preparation for Waranga Athletics week five, Thursday 10th August. Let's keep up the great work honing our skills Sporty Paddys.
