With the mercury sitting in single figures, years 3-6 boarded the buses in their house colours and headed off to Collingwood Athletics track for Ivanhoe Primary Schools annual House Athletics Day. The students did not let the cold weather dampen their spirits, with Mrs Morrow leading the crowd in a Nutbush City Warm up. Once warmed up and raring to go, the events kicked off with the 100m heats first, followed by the 200m heats and then the field rotations.
Students could choose between 2-4 events for the day, and they earned a house point for each event they entered. In total there were almost 1000 events entered which is great participation form the students. As well as gaining house points for the events they entered, students also gained house points depending on their finishing place, with 10 points for first, 9 for second and so on. After 9th place everyone else received one point. At the end of the day the points were added up, and on Friday lunchtime the winners were announced. The results were 1st Conder, 2nd Ibbott, 3rd McCubbin, and 4th Sutherland.
As well as earning house points, we also use the athletics day to select the Ivanhoe Primary School’s Athletic Team to compete against the 9 other primary schools in our district at the Meadowglen International Athletics track in Epping in August. Students that have been successful will be contacted by Mr Bull over the next week.
Also due to ground maintenance we were unable to run the 800m. Students that had selected to do this will be contacted by Mr Bull with an alternative arrangement for completing this event.
Finally, a huge thankyou to all the teachers and parent helpers that made the day a great success. Without their support the day could not run.
