School Council

Commencing the most recent College Council meeting on an all-too familiar online conference, it was exciting to welcome our newest student member Elloise Prior.

As it is my second year as a student representative, I look forward to hearing Elloise's new ideas and watching her help to bring improvements to our school community.

A main focus for this month’s meeting was Ms Duggan’s recent adventure overseas. It was interesting to hear our Assistant Principal talk about her experience recruiting international students, which was approved by the council earlier this year. Her destinations were Japan and South Korea where she spent her time working hard to represent our school and show potential future students the benefits of completing their schooling in Australia, particularly at MGSC. Our international students bring diversity to our school and allow students to learn from each other about different cultural backgrounds and experiences. We love having them in our community and hope that we can welcome some more international students from Japan and/or South Korea in the future.

There are also plans for our Principal Ms Brown to visit Vietnam and Cambodia soon for the same purpose of recruiting overseas students, which has been passed by the Council.

We also heard from Assistant Principal Ms Dureau who recently attended the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools Conference in Tasmania, along with other staff members. There, they were able to understand how other schools support their students and see what their learning spaces are like during tours of three different schools. The trip was reported to be very worthwhile.

We are so lucky to have teachers who willingly give up their extra time to travel and learn how to make our school an even better space for students. The trips that the Council approves are very valuable to MGSC, and I am grateful for the staff who help make them happen.
