Library News

Library staff have looked at data from our automated library catalogue and discovered that students have borrowed and returned almost 1,000 more books in 2022 than in 2021.  It is really encouraging to know that our students enjoy recreational reading, are engaged with our library and with the English Department’s Wider Reading program.  Furthermore, we are on track in 2023 to surpass our 2022 record. Keep up the excellent reading everyone!

The library has a diverse selection of Graphic Novels and a good example of this collection are the following new items.  Ride On is a story about relationships and the benefits of good friendships, told through the eyes of a young adult who trains horses.  Wires and Nerve is a new two-part series based on the futuristic fairy-tale universe of the Lunar Chronicles, featuring familiar characters and a new villain.  These new titles were requested by our students.

NAIDOC Colouring Competition Extended

Students are invited to enter the NAIDOC week colouring competition which is now extended until the end of the third week of term.  We have NAIDOC week giveaways – scrunchies, lapel pins and wrist bands for the first 30 students who enter.

This year’s theme is ‘For our Elders’.  You will notice that the artwork on this year’s NAIDOC week poster is intricately drawn, using vibrant pastel colours.  Entry sheets can be found here on the NAIDOC week website and downloaded from the internet or collect them from the library.

A big thank you to those students who have entered.

Sun Project CBCA Shadow Judging

The Shadow Judges are meeting every week in the lead up to Book Week in August.  Students are discussing and unpacking each short-listed book from a judging criteria.   To reference their ideas, students are annotating onto a Padlet.  One book will be chosen as YA Book of the Year later on in the term, so watch this space!
