Environment Group

Free Dress Day

Ms Kathryn Badini and Ms Elizabeth Kenny

The Environment Group Free Dress Day has been moved to Monday, the 7th of August. We are asking students to either donate money (preferably through their ID cards) or food staples – namely, tinned tomatoes, cooking salt, rolled oats, or canned pulses (lentils, chickpeas etc.). – to FareShare.

Today in Extended PG, students learnt more about the wonderful work of FareShare. They were founded in Melbourne 21 years ago when a chef became about the amount of food waste (from farms, supermarkets, in the catering industry etc.) and number of Australians going hungry. In 2019, the Brisbane kitchen opened which is the largest charity kitchen in the southern hemisphere.

Supporting on FareShare has allowed the Environment Group to promote conversations around the incredible issue of food waste, the number of vulnerable Australians, the importance of a meal in hard times, and even what a food staple is. Below are some of the facts that the students have learnt about this week.

During the break on Monday, our Year 10 LMYELN students also will be running a food stall to raise money for their environmental project of an ‘Sustainable Food Forest’.
