R U OK? Ambassadors Leadership Program

As many of you may be aware, one of Brookside’s annual traditions is to celebrate R U OK? Day throughout the week that it falls on. This year, R U OK? Day will be on the 14th of September, which also happens to be during the final week of Term 3. In the lead up towards R U OK? Day, one of the programs organised by the Wellbeing Team is the R U OK? Ambassadors Leadership Program.

Fifteen Year 9 students have been selected by their homegroup teachers to participate in the 9-week program run by the Wellbeing Team in collaboration with No Bull - the community youth organisation, and Headspace - the mental health organisation. The goal of the program is to develop the students’ leadership skills and awareness around social and emotional wellbeing. This is all in preparation for the peer teaching event with our Year 6 students later in the term, which we look forward to telling you all about!

The students have currently had two sessions to get to know each other and the team from No Bull. These past two sessions have focused on the topics of “The Character of a Leader” and “Self-Leadership”. The group has had the opportunity to learn about the various qualities that a good leader displays and the importance of being able to lead yourself before leading others. Dom O’Brien, No Bull’s General Manager, has shared many stories from his own experiences and creates a friendly environment for the students to speak up and partake in group discussions alongside various team-building activities.

We look forward to seeing our students’ growth throughout this term and cannot wait to share more of the program with you next time!
