PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
MS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL
On Monday 21st August I begin four weeks of Enrichment Leave. As a Catholic secondary school principal I have an entitlement to leave that will enrich me both as a person and ultimately the school. I had planned to take some leave in 2020, and we all know how that year went. So on Monday I leave for two weeks in Scotland and then two weeks in Israel and Jordan.
My time in Scotland will have me visiting two schools, one in Glasgow and one in Edinburgh. I am very much looking forward to learning more about the education system and pedagogy of Scottish Catholic schools. However, the majority of my time in Scotland will be visiting towns and sites that Mary MacKillop visited in 1873. Mary’s parents, Alexander MacKillop and Flora McDonald, were born and lived in Scotland before travelling, meeting and marrying in Melbourne.
On 1st September I will join a Pilgrimage with other Catholic secondary school principals in Israel. Over two weeks we will visit many historical holy sites, and spend two days on a retreat in Kalia, in the Judaean Desert. This will be an amazing experience that I am looking forward to and am excited to share on my return.
During my time on leave, Catherine Howison has been appointed in the position of Acting Principal.
This week has seen the culmination of almost 12 months of planning, rehearsing and preparing for the school production of We Will Rock You. I hope that you have taken the opportunity to see one of the shows. Our students are amazing, and the talent that is on show this week is incredible. Congratulations to Talia Henderson, Production Coordinator, and the many other staff who have worked extremely hard to ensure the gifts and talents of our students have been able to shine so brightly this week. There are still tickets available for the Friday night and Sunday matinee shows. Don’t miss out.
I wish you all well for the remainder of Term 3 and the term break. Please think of our Year 12 students as they complete coursework and begin preparing for end of year exams in the coming months.
