Grade 5/6 Students

Celebrating our fantastic Fives and sensational Sixes!

Reading:

In Reading, students are continuing to focus on Reader’s Theatre. The reading that students are doing is both entertaining and beneficial to their skills. Having students in small groups and working on their pace, tone, expression and fluency has been rewarding and fun! Here, Tess, Osha and Amelia are practising their lines.

Writing:

In writing, students have continued to work on their Information Reports. Within this, there has been a strong focus on researching information from reliable sources and developing browsing skills. The information reports, on a natural disaster, will be a great source of knowledge for students when presenting as part of the Natural Disasters Expo in Week 8! The below picture is an example of Oliver H’s planning information.

Maths:

In maths, students are working on addition and subtraction. Although it sounds easy for 5/6s, when you’re dealing with decimals and fractions there is a lot more to it! In this task, Benjamin had to find 4 numbers that added together to make 563.4. She began with whole numbers and one decimal that included .4 and developed to using various decimals to the hundredths!

Cyber Safety:

Students have been completing cyber safety sessions, alternating with Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships. Students have looked at privacy settings for their accounts and the importance of not posting anything online that they wouldn’t say in person. The conversations that come out of these sessions are terrific and students are empowered to share what they are experiencing online as youths.

Welcome:

It has been a massive few weeks for the 5/6 team. We said farewell to Michael Every and we wished him all the best with his career out of the classroom. We are extremely excited to welcome Ruby Panozzo to the Monty community. Ruby was a student teacher with the 3/4s earlier in the year and she brings fresh ideas, enthusiasm and does it with a smile. We are sure you will make her feel welcome, as is the Monty way!
