From the Librarian

Another term and, before long another year, will soon be over.

In the library, as in classrooms and in families it is always exciting to witness growth as children build confidence and develop their skills. The Premier’s Reading Challenge is over for the year. Some children may be encouraged to keep reading if new challenges and opportunities are offered to them.

Sometimes I notice a student who is tentative about choosing a book to read. Last week a young girl approached the desk with a big smile. ”Look Mrs Croser,” she said.” I’ve picked out two books!” Sometimes something this small can represent a big step.

I notice with the students who come in for weaving and lego how much they love to “make something”. While the lego creations can stay on display before being broken down again, the woven items are kept by the makers. Sometimes the students have specific plans for keeping them but more often than not, the colourful little items are “For   … someone.” Pleasure in giving is also something that I love to see, as is the readiness of many to help others.

This Friday the two class winners of the Book Week Parade will share their prizes … pizza lunch! Happy munching Year Reception-One and Year Five!

Mrs Fergusson and I both wish all students and their families a safe and happy holiday … hopefully with lovely weather for lots of enjoyable activities.
