Finals Fever
The average student in Catholic Education in Victoria will attend approximately 1100 days of schooling from the start of Year 7 to finishing Year 12. Our Year 12 cohort only have just over 20 days left till they celebrate their Graduation Mass (dates below in Upcoming Events).
October is known as ‘Mission’ month on the Catholic calendar. I think the mission for the Year 12's for their last days in October, is to wear with pride the burgundy blazer, a colour associated with both martyrdom and leadership within the Catholic Church and heavily connected to St Peter. A blazer with our motto ‘Be Not Afraid’ front and centre. A most appropriate motto at this time for our senior students.
With the Ashes finishing up as we speak, I include a famous quote by Steve Waugh, former captain of the Australian cricket team in regard to the famous Baggy Green:
‘honouring the traditions of the game was critical to the success of a team, to be able to partake of these rituals and traditions has meant you have been awarded the highest honour in Australian cricket — you have been selected to play for your country’.
Only a select few in the overall population, have the honour of saying that they are St. Peter’s College old scholars. Feel privileged.
Speaking of Finals Fever
It is September, which means it is finals time. A football club is a community. It’s a collection of people all pulling for a single cause, on and off the field. Just like a Catholic school. Like St. Peter’s College.
On Monday, 7 October 2019 all staff will enjoy some time ‘off the field’ to reflect on what makes our College, a Catholic place of learning. We will reflect on our past, in this our 25 year anniversary, but also looking very importantly at the present of what is working well on the field and to the future, to continue making our club a great club. The Richmond Football Club went through a similar process a few years ago. Richmond Football Club is a proud club, an old club steeped in the Catholic history of its suburbs’ working class river flats under the watchful eye of St Ignatius Catholic Church. They also looked at their past and their community, to see where it could lead them into the future, while being mindful of their grassroots.
Go Tigers.
What is the Clemente Program?
Clemente Australia is an academically approved university course for Australians who would otherwise be excluded from tertiary education opportunities. On completion of four Clemente subjects, students graduate with an Australian Catholic University Certificate in Liberal Studies. These units can be credited towards an ACU undergraduate degree when students continue their studies.
