Principal News

The end of Term 1 is fast approaching and what a busy one it has been!

We thank our students, staff, parents/guardians and Brookside Community for their engagement and enthusiasm towards learning this term. It has been nice to see our students not only engage in their learning but also participate in experiences such as incursions, excursions, camps, swimming carnivals and interschool sports.

We wish all of our families a relaxing Easter break and hope you take this time to reconnect with family and friends.

End of term

Thursday 6th April marks the end of Term 1 and school will finish at 2:15pm on this day. Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) will be available via Camp Australia for families who are unable to arrange pick up at this time.

Out of Uniform Day – 4th April

Brookside Parents and Friends Committee (PFC) are hosting an 'Out of Uniform' day on Tuesday 4th April.

For a gold coin donation, students from Prep to 9 can wear casual clothes. Appropriate closed toe footwear must be worn. No sandals, thongs or slides.

The funds raised will go towards a Sensory Garden for students to enjoy.

For any questions or if you would like to join the PFC, please send an email to brooksidecollegepfc@gmail.com and someone will get back to you.

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences were held on Monday 27th March. Families had the option to book an interview either via Zoom or onsite. Thank you to our families for taking the time to meet with teachers to discuss the learning of their child/ren.  We have received a great response from our community in regards to this process which will support future planning of Parent - Teacher - Student Conferences.  A survey has been sent out for families to complete to seek feedback towards improving the process for future PTSCs.

Easter Bonnet Parade

The annual Prep to 6 Easter Bonnet Parade will be held under the hayshed on Monday 3rd April following on from the Primary Assembly.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to be creative and crafty with your child/ren in making an Easter bonnet/hat for the parade. Students are encouraged to make their bonnet/hat at home with their families. Please note that the Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students will have some class time dedicated to designing and making a bonnet/hat.

For Year 7-9 students, it would be wonderful to see your involvement by getting creative with your designs. Year 7-9 students who have an Easter bonnet/hat on the day, will be invited to join the parade during session one.

On this day students will be required to wear their normal school uniform, however they will be able to wear their Easter hat/bonnet to school.

If you have any questions, please see your child's classroom teacher.

NAPLAN

The official NAPLAN testing period has come to an end and we are exceptionally proud of all of our Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 students who participated.

Our students remained calm and positive throughout the experience and the attendance rates across all year levels were very high.

Thank you to our families for supporting your child/ren throughout this time. We are expecting results later in the year, which will be communicated with students and parents once confirmed.

Gold Coast camp

We wish all of the Year 9 students and staff all the very best for their Gold Coast camping experience. For those students attending it is a memory that is reflected on fondly as their time comes to an end at the college.

We look forward to sharing an update of their experience in a future newsletter.

Celebrating Cultural Diversity and Inclusion at Brookside

On Friday 24th March 2023 students in Prep to Year 9 were invited to wear something that represents their culture or a SPLASH of orange.

If you were fortunate enough to walk through the college on Friday you would have seen the see of colour, with so many of our students proudly wearing their cultural dress. Amongst all of this colour was the dominant colour of orange.

With orange being the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week, it was great to see so many students show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.

Our state is home to people who speak 290 languages and have 314 different ancestries. Many of these were represented by our students across college through cultural dress or other cultural accessories.

We look forward to celebrating this event again in the future and thank our community for your support.
