Pivot Survey:    Student survey of teaching

This year we are thrilled to be able to offer our students and staff access to the Pivot survey platform.

One of the tools that will be utilised in our classrooms is the Student Survey on Teaching.

Pivot’s Student Survey on Teaching is a feedback tool aligned to global teaching frameworks that allows students to provide their teachers with feedback on observable teaching practices. The surveys are age specific and, following a successful small scale trial in 2022, will give all of our students the opportunity to provide feedback on their learning.

This survey has been designed to help:

 ● activate student voice

● develop whole school cultures of feedback

● support teacher professional development

Research shows that student feedback is one of the most reliable and effective strategies for improving outcomes. When we engage students feedback processes we promote:

● active classroom participation

● stronger engagement in learning

● improved student-teacher relationships

The survey platform is utilised in an annual cycle with students completing their feedback on learning three times during the academic year. Student responses are completely anonymous and are confidential to their classroom teacher.

The feedback process provides our staff with a means of self appraisal and the opportunity to access a rich source of curriculum linked resources to respond to their survey data with their students; the outcome being that staff can action positive change in their practice and students are able to quantify the response to their feedback in the following cycle.

This tool is a fantastic resource to help our students give honest and timely feedback on measurable outcomes  in the classroom and which in turn gives our staff capacity to develop their professional capabilities through a process of self evaluation and collaboratively actioning change through consultation with students.

The below infographic provides a snapshot of the introduction of the process to our senior students.
