Visual Art

Foundation

'My family and me' was the topic of the artwork the Foundation students worked on during the last two weeks. They used grey lead pencil to draw themselves and their family and used water colour to paint their work. It was a lovely way for the students to connect art at school with their family and home life.

Grade 1 and Grade 2

With the start of Autumn, nights will be getting cooler and soon we'll need our warm blankets and doonas. Students in Grades 1 and 2 combined paper weaving and drawing to create  images of themselves sleeping under colourful blankets.

Grade 3 and Grade 4

Students in Grades 3 and 4 finished their sgraffito artwork. Sgraffito comes from the Italian word graffiare ("to scratch") and is a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting colour. After applying two layers of wax crayons in contrasting colours, students used tools to scratch patterns and symbols in the top layer. The students loved the way the light colours 'pop' up through the dark layer.

Grade 5 and Grade 6

The monochromatic cube paintings are finished. Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed mixing and creating different shades and tints from their original colour.
