3/ 4 Excursion to the MCG

On Tuesday 21st February, all students in Years 3 and 4 were lucky enough to participate in an excursion to the MCG and the Australian Sports Museum as part of our integrated unit titled Get Active. As part of the unit we are exploring how active participation in sport makes an important contribution to our physical, mental, and social health and wellbeing and this excursion certainly highlighted that for our students. As part of the excursion students got to participate in a tour of the MCG to explore the world class facilities elite athletes get to experience. They had exclusive access to the change rooms and training areas and it was fantastic to watch the excitement that the students had as they got to walk onto the field and take in the sheer size of the stadium. Another highlight was the  visit to the media area where students could pretend to be hosting their very own press conference! For many of our students this was their first visit to the stadium and something that they won’t soon forget.

Our time in the Australian Sport Museum was spent interacting with, and exploring the amazing memorabilia. Students were able to immerse themselves in the history of Australian sport and be transported back in time to look at some of the most memorable moments in Australian sport. This was followed by time in the Game On exhibition where students got to unleash their competitive side by participating in sporting challenges and test their skills against Aussie athletes. By the end of the session some of our students thought that they were definitely skilled enough to compete with the best!

Finally, we had the privilege of listening to either Olympic sailor Carrie Smith or Olympic diver, Jenny Donnet talk about their time as an Olympian. They discussed the hardships and successes they endured to excel and reach the top of their sport and even shared some inside stories about the time they spent in the Olympic Village!

Above are some photos from the day, as you can see it was filled with fun, excitement and genuine enthusiasm for the important role that sport plays in our lives and all the benefits it can provide.
