From the Principal's Desk

Thank You

As this is our last Gulgos as relieving Principals, Felicity and I would like to thank the students, staff, parents and wider community for the support you have shown us over the last three terms.  We have thoroughly enjoyed our experience as co Principals and look forward to returning to our roles as Assistant Principals.

Leaders Go Mad Camp

On Friday, our leaders participated in the Go Mad leadership day at Thalgarrah.  Our captains and sports captains had a great day interacting with other leaders and learning different leadership skills and strategies.

Cross country:

On Thursday 30th March, we will be holding our Cross Country.  This will be held within school grounds, starting at 11:30 am.  Students will be running the same course as last year, so most students are familiar with where to go and where not to go. We have also been practicing throughout our P.E sessions.

The Cross Country is mandatory for the students in Year 3-6.  Students can run/walk the course if needed.  Please also note that students who are in Year 2 and turning 8 this year, can also choose to participate in the Cross Country.  It is also important to know that only the top 6 runners from each age group will receive a place to go to the next level at PSSA. Students are to wear their sport uniform along with some shoes that are suitable for running.

 8, 9, 10 Yr olds = 2 km / 2 laps

11, 12, 13 Yr olds = 3 km / 3 laps

Remember, have fun!

Easter Hat Parade:

Our Easter hat parade will be held next Thursday 6th April at 9:15am.  Parents are most welcome to attend the parade which is held down at the outside cement assembly area in front of the Kindergarten room.

PAX Word of the Fortnight: POLITE

Being polite means having or showing behaviour that is respectful and considerate of other people.  PAX Leaders use their manners to show respect and be polite to others.

Things to discuss at home:  How can you show respect at school and at home? It is important to be polite to others because it helps us work as a team.  How does being polite help us to work well together?

Autumn festival:

This year the Armidale Community of Schools which includes Martin's Gully PS are marching in the Armidale Autumn Festival on Saturday 1st April. Captains of our school will be carrying our school banner and any students from K-6 who would like to walk in the parade are welcome to join us.  A news item will go out in COMPASS regarding our marshalling time at Central Park.  Students who are participating should wear their school uniforms and hats and bring a drink bottle.  After the march concludes, parents can meet us at Civic Park where the march concludes (near the RSL).  The parade commences at 12:30pm and will finish soon afterwards.

Toys:

Just a reminder that students in K-6 should not bring toys to school.  We are having a lot of children bringing stuffed toys, small bags of small toys and other items to school each day.  These toys are getting lost in the playground or they become distracting in class during learning time. Thanks for your help with this.

Student Success this week:

Congratulations to our students Eily, Maddie, Tommy and Connor who represented our school with great sportsmanship at the North West hockey trials.

Well done to Tommy and Connor on their selection in the NW boys team to play in Tamworth next term.  Also to Maddie who has been selected as a reserve for the girls team.

Good luck to Julian Warne for the NW Basketball trials today in Tamworth.

Good luck to our students trialling for the Armidale PSSA Zone rugby league and football (soccer) this week and next.

A huge good luck to Eily, Jack and Nixon who compete at the State Swimming Championships in week 11.

Well done to Logan and Lincoln in Year 6, who are participating at the Inquiring Minds Camp at Thalgarrah next week.  This overnight camp and learning programs provide students with a range of extensive and challenging tasks.  Lincoln is participating in the course "Medieval Masters" and Logan is completing "On Country Light."

Attendance Matters:

We have set our school a target to achieve 90% attendance 90% of the time for 2023.

Can you help us do this? Can you make appointments or attend extra curricular activities outside school hours?  Coming to school each day between 8:30am and 9:00am and leaving at 3pm is just a simple way we can achieve this together. Let's do this together.
