Learning and Teaching in Prep

ABC Bootcamp

Throughout Term 1, our Preps have been involved in an ABC Bootcamp!  This is an intensive program where we focus on recognising and naming the letters of the alphabet and learn about their corresponding sounds.  We also learn how to form/write lowercase letters correctly.

Each day we read picture story books that relate to our Letter of the Day, and we even compose a sentence using some high frequency words.  We are becoming great readers!  We can read from left to right and point to words as we read.

So far, one of the highlights of our ABC Bootcamp has been making jelly for the letter ‘J’.

Fine Motor Activities

Our daily Fine Motor activities are also great fun!  We do lots of threading, cutting and other intricate movements that strengthen our pincer grip - the grip required for holding a pencil correctly.

All these activities help us to further develop our fine motor skills and strengthen our fingers, hands and arm muscles.  This strength is essential for good handwriting.
