The Music Buzz….

The Music Centre continues to be a vibrant and somewhat noisy setting, with rehearsals before and after school, lessons and classroom music during the day, and now House Performing Arts Competition practices happening just about every lunchtime. Amongst this appearance of mayhem is evidence of great learning and excitement going on ahead of some fun performances that will be coming up soon.

The Fast Track…

For those students who are yet to select their instrument, the door is always open to supporting the learning of a wide range of instruments. In particular, the accelerated pathway to becoming involved in our senior ensembles is to take up the instruments that are sought after; namely bassoon, french horn, trombone, tuba, euphonium and percussion. Those students who have a piano background will find it relatively easy to reapply their music knowledge to a new instrument so that they can then participate with many other students in our ensembles. Trial lessons can be organised before committing to a longer-term arrangement. Please contact music@huntingtower.vic.edu.au for all enquiries.

Top Class Music

Congratulations to Toby G (Y12) who was selected by his VCE Music Performance examiners (last year) to perform one of his trumpet pieces at the upcoming VCAA Top Class Music event. Toby will be performing as a soloist on the Melbourne Recital Centre stage on Wednesday 29 March, with this year’s VCE Music Performance students in attendance amongst hundreds of others in the audience.

AMEB Success

Amongst many students undertaking AMEB Music exams, congratulations is extended to Owen H (Y8) who had an excellent result in his most recent AMEB 8th Grade Violin examination. Owen attained an A+ performing some very challenging repertoire, and he received consistently positive feedback from the examiner. Despite only being only in Year 8, Owen is a valued member of Senior Symphony Orchestra, Senior Strings, the upcoming European Music Tour, and he was also in the Pit Orchestra for last year’s musical Matilda!. Well done Owen; we all look forward to watching and hearing more of your playing as you progress through the school.
