PFA

Dear Robbie Mac families,

This month will see us enjoying the School Fair and annual Art Show, which are major school events that take a lot of planning, time and effort.  Let’s get behind the School Fair Committee and Art Show Committee to make these events successful and show our support for all the work they have been doing and for Robbie Mac.  March will also be the PFA’s Annual General Meeting, discussed below along with PFA membership, making this article somewhat more ‘formal’.

Families Welcome Back Coffee Morning

A 2023 Families Welcome Back Coffee Morning was held last Friday, 17 February on the Junior Deck with the aim to continue to build a strong and supportive Robbie Mac community.  It included some lovely nibbles – yoghurt cups, muesli, fruit and chocolate cookies – and of course, drinks including juice and coffee. (You may have blinked and missed the cookies as the children with their chocolate radars swooped in and devoured them.) There was a lot of chatter and mingling going on, which was great to see, and we are really pleased with the turn out, great morning weather, and positive feedback received.  Hosting it on the deck was popular and we feel had a more relaxed and engaged atmosphere.  Some photos are included below.

Thanks to Carolyn Steart and Stephen Roche for coordinating this for us, and to those who stepped in to help: Lisa Hamilton, Trish Cronin, Lauren Mumme, Nicole and Meg Perazzo, Hazel, Andrea Murray, Kat Dawson and Chris Pappas. (Apologies if we missed anyone.)

RMPS School Fair

The RMPS School Fair is to be held on 18 March 2023 and we can’t wait!  SignUp sheets are out seeking volunteers to help on the day.  Please put your name down to volunteer some time either with your class’s stall or activity or on another one.  The Fair has always been a wonderful event for family, friends and neighbours to come together – let’s make it a huge success!  You can find out more via this link:  https://robmacps.vic.edu.au/rmps-community-fair/ Also, if you would like to get involved in any way (big, small or in between; volunteer, donations and/or sponsor), you can email the team via robbiemacfair@gmail.com

Annual Art Show

You will have seen raffle tickets come home for the Art Show raffle, which is raising funds for the school arts programs – buy some by Tuesday 14 March and see if you are a lucky winner of one of the wonderful prizes including the first prize original oil painting ‘Misty’ by award winning artist Do Noble.  Tickets are also on sale for $25 via Compass for the Art Show Opening Night on Fri 17 March, 7pm-10pm, which is sure to be a wonderful evening and an opportunity to mingle with and meet other parents and carers.  So, book your babysitter for the night – this is one for the adults and includes food, drinks and live music, with you having the first chance to view and purchase art.  Or come along with the kids on Sat 18 March for the general exhibition while also enjoying the fair that day – no need to purchase Art Show tickets beforehand for this; just come along on the day and give a gold coin donation.  For more information about the art show, visit https://robmacps.vic.edu.au/rmps-art-show-2023/.

2023 Class Reps

Help! We are still looking for a parent or two who can take on the role of 2023 Class Rep for 6R, who has no class reps.  It would be great for someone to put their hand up for this ASAP and before the Fair, which is just around the corner.  All other classes have at least one class rep, although we aim for two per class.  The following classes have one rep: 2R, 2S, 3W, 4R and 5K.

Being a Class Rep is a very rewarding role and a great way to get to know your class and be involved with the school.  No prior experience is needed.  Ad hoc tasks do not take much time and many of our reps work part-time or full-time with busy family lives.  If you are interested in becoming one in 2023 or have any questions, please contact Kim Jones (Class Rep Coordinator) on rmps.classreps@gmail.com

Thanks to everyone who has already put their hand up to help as a Class Rep.

What is the PFA?

The Parents & Friends Association (PFA) is a group of volunteer parents and carers who help organise events and fundraising activities for RMPS, welcome families and bring people together from within the community.  This helps us all connect more closely with our school and to raise vital funds for school improvements.  Without volunteers, there would be no PFA.

Working in cooperation with the Principal and School Council, the PFA’s aims are to:

  • contribute to the wellbeing of the school community
  • encourage the participation of all parents in the life of the school and the education of their children
  • provide opportunities for parents to get to know each other and to be informed about their child’s school
  • provide opportunities for parents to extend their understanding of school operations, and general education policy
  • contribute to proposals on school policy and other educational issues (as identified or discussed with the Principal or School Council)
  • raise funds for the benefit of the school

As a registered association, it is a requirement that the PFA has a minimum of three office bearers (executives), a President, Secretary and Treasurer.  The current PFA executives are:

  • President – vacant position
  • Elizabeth (Secretary) – Mother of Sarah (4D)
  • Bård (Treasurer) – Father of Madeleine (4D) and Aksel (FP)

PFA Registered Members

All RMPS parents and carers of children attending the school, or any other interested individual of the immediate school community, are welcome to become Registered Members of the PFA.  Registered Members can:

  • Receive copies of meeting minutes
  • Vote on items/actions at meetings
  • Vote to elect office bearers (executives)
  • Nominate to be elected to PFA executive roles
  • Be elected to PFA executive roles.

All members must sign and complete the Registration Form.  After signing and submitting the form, a person becomes a Registered Member until the next Annual General Meeting.  If you would like to register or re-register as a member, please contact us via rmps.pfa@gmail.com for a copy of the registration form.

Note that you do not have to be a member to help on events or attend meetings.

PFA Annual General Meeting (AGM)

As an association, it is a requirement that the PFA hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is held in Term 1, to elect the office bearers for the coming year. All office bearer positions are declared vacant at the AGM and open to any Registered Member to be elected to. We are looking to hold our AGM this March and are working with the school on confirming the date and time, which will be communicated shortly.

As previously mentioned, currently only two of the three mandatory roles of the PFA are filled, all of which will be automatically vacated at the AGM.  The PFA will not be able to continue to operate after this without the three roles filled.

Any Registered Member can nominate for office.  Nominees must be present at the AGM at which the election of office bearers occurs, or have indicated their intention to nominate in writing to the President prior to the meeting.  As we don’t have a President, this can be done to either the Secretary or Treasurer.  Office bearers are elected to office by Registered Members attending the meeting as only they are eligible to vote.  If you are a current Registered Member, your membership will cease at the AGM unless you re-register prior to or at the AGM.

Please let us know (1) if you would like to be a Registered Member for this coming year and/or (2) if you would like to nominate for the role of President, Secretary or Treasurer.  Contact us via rmps.pfa@gmail.com for a copy of the registration form and/or nomination form.

If you're passionate about your school and would like to see Robbie Mac being able to make the most of 2023, then please support our PFA and our school and get involved!

Have a wonderful day!

The PFA Team
