Basketball

Last week we had the boys WAS basketball in Castlehill at Hills basketball stadium.

This was a big day of travel and games and it was a credit to the boys who represented the School, themselves and the Western Region Associated Schools. There were four boys that represented the region from Kinross Wolaroi School. Thanks to Abra Wilson, James Noble, Lincoln Robinson and Lazo Jalal all of whom tried there hardest and played some excellent Basketball. Three other boys were selected from Orange Anglican Grammar and considering it was the first time they played it was an excellent effort. Our 1sts coach, Jarrad Klose also made the trip and offered valuable coaching and management of the team. Well done to all the boys that represented the region.

On Wednesday 8 March a number of our students will represent Western Associated Schools in Castle Hill at The Hills basketball stadium. There are five girls from Kinross Wolaroi School: Evie hall, Phoebe Poole, Olivia Martin, Emily Turner and Jesse Tudor were all selected, along with a number of Scots All Saints girls. Well done to all and good luck for the day.

Well done to all the players that tried out for WAS basketball and for those that were selectedhe quality of basketball was exceptional and to represent your region willingly is commendable.

Last week’s game against Marco was an invaluable opportunity to be coached by former Olympian, Alicia Smith.

Marco forfeited the game, so students played against a mixed side, with Alicia on the pool deck stopping and starting the game to manoeuvre students into better positions in the water and help students identify the best plays and passes. Krill players were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn from Alicia and look forward to using some of their knowledge and skills from last week against Jet Turtles this Thursday.

ISA Tennis

Tennis Finals report 2023

Over the past couple of weekends, our KWS ISA Tennis team has begun to play finals rounds. After 10 rounds of ISA competition, both KWS Odds and Evens teams finished in the top two teams heading into the playoff round. This meant a KWS final to see which team would take out the school competition. As always, matches between the friendly teams were competitive and our KWS Odds team took out the win. Congratulations to Kaydn McLachlan, Charlie Poole, Ollie Wong, Jack Steventon, Anna Orr, Milli Mackay, Ashton Quinn-Woonton and Rory Gulliver.

Last weekend KWS selected their top two doubles teams to compete in the ISA Doubles Championships for 2023. Representing our school was Tim Dakin and Charlie Poole, and Max Reidy and Ollie Wong. Both doubles teams made it through to the semi-finals of the draw where they had to play each other. Some close tie-break wins during this match saw Tim and Charlie through to the final up against Blue Mountains Grammar School (BMGS). Tim and Charlie had a close start in the final, losing their first set in at tie-break. Showing positivity and resilience, the boys came back to win the second set in a tie-break. At one set all, the teams needed to play a deciding third tie-breaker to be see who would be crowned the Doubles Champions. Charlie and Tim showed sheer determination and impressive focus in the last tie-break winning 7-4 and taking home the Doubles Championship title- big congratulations to the boys! This weekend we will be playing the Singles Championships in Lithgow to wrap up the season.

Touch Football

KWS 7 (Camels) v Blue Mountains Grammer 3

In their semi-final, the Camels came up against a BMGS side who they faced twice this season, with one win to each team.

In wet conditions the game started as an arm wrestle with both sides managing to make line breaks and create opportunities. However, the Camels held strong and displayed very good ball skills in the wet conditions. The crucial 3-point first try went to Rahni Jarick to give the Camels the advantage, while Lucy Atkinson scored a great try send Kinross into half time with a 5 - 2 lead.

BMGS started the second half with a try to put pressure on the Camels. The game opened up as both teams found some gaps, and the Camels took the ascendency through excellent ball movement and support play. Second half tries to May Kelly and Sophie Staniforth put the Camels right on top. Although BMGS fought back, a double to Rhani and another try from May saw the Camels head into the grand final with 15 - 8 win.

Great job Camels!!

KWS 1 V BARKER 1

In a thrilling touch football match between KWS and BAR, both teams put up a spirited fight in a closely contested match that ended in a 8-7 win.The game started with BAR taking control of the ball, and scoring first try, which was worth 3 points. The game was then try for try.

The second half started with both teams determined to take the win. KWS continued to dominate possession, and their efforts finally paid off when they managed to break through BAR's defense and score brilliant tries.

The final minutes of the match saw both teams going all out for the win, but solid defense and excellent teamwork ensured that the match ended in a win!! It was a hard-fought game with plenty of exciting moments, and KWS should be proud of their efforts.

This weekend KWS 1 play REDLANDS 1 at Macquarie University.

KWS 2 v OXL 2

In an exciting touch football match played in pouring rain, KWS faced off against OXL in a fiercely contested encounter. The two teams gave their all in a match that saw some exceptional play from both sides.

Right from the outset, it was clear that both teams were up for the challenge, with KWS and OXL exchanging possession in the early stages. KWS opened the scoring with a quickfire try, but OXL quickly responded with two tries of their own to take a 3-4 lead.

It was a fantastic effort from both teams, but it was KWS who emerged victorious in the end. They fought right until the end and showed great resilience in difficult conditions, which was a testament to their character and determination.

Overall, it was an excellent match that showcased some brilliant touch football skills, despite the challenging weather conditions. Both teams can be proud of their efforts, but it was KWS who came out on top, thanks to their fighting spirit.
