Orange Chamber Music Festival

The Gala Opening of Orange’s Chamber Music Festival will be held in the DPA this Friday night, 10 March.  Whilst the main event commences at 7pm, Kinross Wolaroi School's Thompson Ensemble will be performing in the foyer from 6:30pm and we encourage you to come along to support Mrs Moxey and our wonderful string players. 

In addition, there will be a number of free events across Orange on Saturday – please see the flyer below for further details. Of particular note are performances by our staff Lorraine and Luke Moxey, 11am at the Orange City Library and a performance by ex-student, Rachael Kwa at 1:30pm at the Regional Gallery.

Calling all guitarists 

We are excited to announced that Guitar Ensemble will commence next Monday lunchtime in Room 68.  It’s open to any student learning guitar who is past beginner stage. Mr Matt Arthur will direct this ensemble. A professional guitarist/singer with over 30 years experience in the music industry, Matt specialises in Blues and Rock.  If you’d like your child to join this ensemble, please contact Mrs Shields at jshields@kws.nsw.edu.au

Camerata Competition: Last Call to Sign Up 

Each year we hold our Camerata Competition, a performance-based competition offering our secondary music students the opportunity to perform music of a high standard to a panel of adjudicators. Students who enter the competition are invited to perform at the Camerata Concert in the School Chapel on 19 May 2023.

We hope to encourage students at a level of AMEB Grade 4 and above to enter the competition for 2023. The maximum performance time for each competitor is 6 minutes. The competition will be run during the school day on Wednesday, the 22nd of March, in room 68, and students will be notified of when they are scheduled to arrive, warm up and perform.

The competition is an excellent opportunity for students to perform works they have been working on over the past year or new pieces they feel confident in performing.

Music Camp 

We are excited that Music Camp is fast approaching and are looking forward to three days of rehearsals with orchestra, concert band, chamber strings and stage band.  Information has been sent to families of students in these ensembles and registration is now due. 

Encore 2023

Last week Years 10 – 12 Music classes attended a performance of Encore at the Sydney Opera House.  Encore showcases exemplary performances of HSC students from the previous year and is a fabulous way for our students to better understand what excellence in Senior Music looks like. Thank you to Mrs Lenton, Mr Moxey and Mr Stevens, who accompanied students for the day.
